Taking into account the payout bonus for getting a blackjack, it works out to roughly a 5.5 percent house advantage. That means that if you were to play blackjack for a very long time (eight hours a day for several years), you would end up losing about 5.5 percent of your money.

give me £200 and I can prove them very wrong. If you're lucky I'll be able to hand back £1.

If i had held out i could have made just over a quid!!

Did IG index phone you up yet? they just called me and have assigned me my very own account manager hehe

I had some aussie lass with a nice voice who was dressed in a skimpy bikini call me up to introduce herself to me as my account manager. (I may have just been imagining the last bit.)

Keep up on the updates guys - it's interesting hearing how you're progressing as you get to grips with your 'systems'.

Let us know about your wins - first to make a £1 gets some major kudos!

I hear that you can make some cash out of playing online poker - read about some kid who had 8 small money games on the go - used to play at the times he was guarenteed to pick up pissed aussies and orientals, then drunk europeans, and laterly the yanks....

Sounds more fun than binary indices!!

Having just noticed the gold binary has dropped slightly does anybody know how the buy and sell prices are calculated?
If it is a rather complex process it would be useful in developing a strategy. It could just be add 3 and subtract 3 from the binary on the graph (the thick blue line)

Nice

I screwed up a bit today and bought the wrong thing! I sold it at a £4 loss immediately.

Made two other 10p trades intentionally and made 40p and 90p respectively. My current 'portfolio' should stand at £1.70 profit over two days but i am infact £2.30 in the hole due to my screw up

i guess you could write off the £4 as training and ignore it. i did a similar thing when I was experimenting and sold when I could have made a few quid if I'd clicked buy (partly cos I misunderstood how this worked).

absolutely! I knew what i wanted to buy but i guess i got over excited (over pennies) and screwed up

I really have no clue what i am doing outside of the 'buy at around 80-85' bit !

without that screw up i would have made more on the bet i wanted too, so I would have made about £2 in two days (which would obviously be £200 if i was doing it 'properly'..quite interesting so far...

but do you have the balls to bet enough to gain that? I bet £5 which could have been a £200 loss. If it was £50, then that'd have been a £2000 loss. *gulp* As it turned out, I could have gained almost £400 for watching one Episode of Doctor Who.

OK, we have a major misunderstanding going on here.

You have buyers, and you have sellers, and, at the price where they meet, that is the price on the screen.

It is just like a car auction, but with people seling cars as well as buying them, with each person trying to get the best price that they can.

This is not a set of people inventing a price and offering it for sale to allcomers.

If I may say, this is one of the classic things that people do when trying to convince themselves that their system works. They say to themselves "that one was just practice", or "I would have closed that one out there if this had been real".

The important point with real trades that "would've could've should've" counts for very little.

I have pointed out that once you start putting serious money on, you will spend most of your waiting time staring at a huge loss on the screen. Human nature being what it is, looking at a larger loss figure weighs more heavily on the mind than a smaller loss figure, despite the odds being exactly the same.

Anyway, how do we earn £400 for watching Doctor Who episodes? I dont have the balls to do £400/hr on spread betting anymore, so the Doc Who idea works for me!

Have you guys looked at betfair?

There are great 'trading' opportunities on the UK horse racing. A friend and I 'invested' £75 each in Feb '05 and have turned that into almost £135k trading on horses. We've just bought a pair of 996 TT's out of the job.

We had the benefit of being software developers, so wrote a 'bot' to do the trading for us - i.e. we just run the program every day and let it trade on our behalf. Rare we see less than £100 per day - usually around the £3-400 mark with the occasional £700+. All tax free.

The beauty is, commission is paid only on winning bets - not per transaction which I believe is the case with regular city trading.

Take a look.
