Chaps,

After a well charted 5 year love affair, the P1 has gone to the great trade-in god in the Sky cry (Well Stratstone Stoke actually). As recompense to my distraught sadness comes an E39 M5 complete with Nascar sound track and just 37k miles. bounce

I look forward to some sideways action at an airfield with you all soon and a much improved ranking on the Vmax board

There doesn't seem to be a smiley for a simultaneous cry and bounce

I know, but this feeling must be quite common on PH - Simultaneous and uncontrollable grief akin to losing a limb (bye P1) and excitement, happiness unbridled and a grin the size of the Isle of Man at the impending M5ness.

Very odd feeling.

Excellent - DeR was equally enthusiastic although obviously his description took several hours to fully appreciate and was a contribution to the decision. The garage are trying to get the BMW warranty issued (1 billion point check thingy) and then deliver the car to me in Portsmouth ready for a trip to France - cruising down to the Dordogne for a few days and picking up wine in St Emilion. Perfect M5 territory, n'est-ce pas?

I drove a tatty M5 at North Oxford a few days previously which felt awful. Slow, noisy and cosmetically tatty - the whole thing added up to a poor experience.

The one yesterday couldn't have been more different. 1 owner from new, cosmetically as near to perfect as you'd want and a complete joy to drive.

Let's hope they can get it to Portsmouth in time - otherwise it's the Land Rover. Eugh.

Congrats on the M5

I had mine for a little over two years and it was without doubt the most accomplished four door supercar money can buy.

My car was running Supersprint Manifolds and Tubi Rumore Cat-Back Exhaust... this is one mod you have to do if you love the sound of a tuned V8. cloud9

Health to drive.

Now then chaps - Sadly the M5 didnt make the trip to France and so I`m left with a Land Rover and a sad excuse for a keyboard. Jean_Luc's little Blague, n'est-ce que pas?

Anyway more to follow once I return to a land of lap tops that I don't want to fling through the fenetre.

A Bientot.

Well, it's not quite gone yet - The M5 is still in preparation at the dealership

As I insisted on a full BMW warranty the car has needed a used inspection by a BMW dealer in the Stratstone Group and then the paperwork completing before it's delivered to me. Hopefully this'll be Monday night but we'll see. It's been a long week driving the Land Rover around France - Lovely nevertheless, but would have been much more in the beast.

I'll miss the P1 enormously. It's by far the best car I've ever owned and the M5 has big boots to fill. If you fancy a used P1 with full main dealer history and 71k miles, give Stratstone Stoke a call. I can't exactly say it's never been tracked but hey

As for Vmax - we shall see! @ Anniesdad - if I'm there then you're in.

Cheers beer

Indeed - it seems that I turned the Teutonic way in the end.

After about 5.5 years of ricing it up it's time for a change. See you at a Vmax soon for a chat.

Well, I would if they'd ever actually deliver the fecking thing.

It seems that a BMW main dealer near Taplow have been doing the BMW AUC inspection so it can be fully warrantied. Having the car for a week and half whilst I was pootling France in a Land Rover you'd think would be quite sufficient. But NO.

Having failed to phone me on Friday and then speaking to a automatron who was able to give me no information apart from the fact that the service manager had gone home early, I was finally informed the car had passed all of its checks this morning and would be supplied to me this evening lick

At 4.45pm comes the fateful phone call. Sorry, we didn't realise that as part of the warranty work we have to MOT the vehicle. Obviously all the garages we use are now full or closed so there will be another delay shoot

I wasn't particularly surprised, having predicted being let down but it cheeses me off that complete incompetance of this type has no comeback. You'd think they don't usually do this sort of thing, wouldn't you?

Bah. Sorry for ranting but I feel better now. Actually, no I don't. Bllx punch

Oh dear, I could have told you not to deal with them!

Only up the road though, should you be in the area, feel free to call in for tea and medals...

Cheers Matt. They're supposed to be delivering the car tomorrow but Mrs Smifffy will have the P1 at work. I might have to send her to Penzance to work for the day just to irk that bunch of knobs.

However I'm sure once the M5 arrives then a few evening hoons will be had - especially just to overtake CarZee in his new 540i (Which is also being delivered tomorrow I believe)
