I want to do 5:30 miles.

On a track I can manage a 5:45 and 5:30 consecutively but want to do 10 miles at that pace.

Well after years of running and keeping fit just wearing normal trainers i've finally got myself down to Asics and had them run their 'tests' no idea whether its a gimmick or not but they recommended these http://www.asics.co.uk/Shop/Running/GT-2000-2/p/00... so I bought them! will take them for a spin tonight.

Well that was a st session. I think it shows I'm still recovering from a minor cold or something (I'm still feeling quite tired, bit sniffly etc) as the plan was 4 laps of the "triangle" which should be 6.4 miles, followed by 4x200m off 30secs rest.

2-3 weeks ago I did 2xtriangle at 6:05/mile, 2mins rest, 1xtriangle at 5:54/mile then some 200m reps. Today.....I had to give up after 2 laps at 6:20/mile. I felt absolutely dreadful. Was no point in doing any more.

Hey ho. We all get them. Disappointed in myself but it happens from time to time.

Indeed. I was meant to be training with my group next Saturday as I'm off work but WAY ahead of the "about 3 months" for my MRI scan I've just got a letter saying I've got an appointment next Saturday morning, which is clearly more important....so I'll do my session in the afternoon.

Take it easy. I am sure that once you are through your illness you will run better anyway, no need to heap on extra pressure with commitments to training.

It may mean the rest of catch up and I get me 17m 5k before you, not that i am competitive or anything!

On your non run days what other stuff do you do?

I'm returning to running and i'm a lot heavier this time ( near as damm it 14 stone and not built like a rugby player)

I've always been able to run, still can but slow, however i want to limit myself to 3 runs per week otherwise i'll just end up over doing it and getting injured.

So on my non run days i have the option of spin classes, body bump or just go to the gym and do some cardio and weights, what would be best to loose weight and help my running?

Initial thought's are weights/body pump might help with hills/making the back stronger whilst spinning would work leg muscles not used when running.

Ran the Great Birmingham Run for the 5th time yesterday, but rather than race it, I was helping the BBC to film the Inside Out presenter's first half marathon: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04lx11q/insi...

Skip to the last 10 minutes or so for my handy work! smile

I realised today that I've run about 750 miles this year, and am now wondering whether I can make it 1000 miles by year end. No reason other than having a goal to aim for. Key will be whether I can keep myself injury free, which is definitely not a given.

I ran past you - about a mile or so to go, having seen your picture on here before i was going to say hi - but "are you on Pistonheads" is a slightly odd thing to say to a random person 12 miles into a HM!!

i had a cold and took it easy - did 1.35 and a bit, my slowest ever time in Brum - next year i'll finally do it under 1.30 (4th time lucky)

I'm getting back into running properly and it feels so good!
35 miles last week and hopefully more this week-I'm aiming for 40 by the end of this month and then I'll hold it there till December and then add sessions in.

Although I'm avoiding sessions at the moment I've been running pretty hard on some club runs with the local club I've just joined. Because there's a wide range of abilities the faster guys tend to go off at the front and stop at certain points to allow the group to get back together which means it can get like a faartlek session with hard running and then a bit of a rest.
Today I put my foot down for the first time on one of the flatter stretches and felt really good!

I'm hoping for a productive winter!

You should have definitely came over to say "hi" - have had much stranger things said to me during races before!

Yeah, I reckon I can make it under 90 minutes for next year's as well. 'Twas a bit warm and blustery on Sunday. Were you a victim of the dodgy timing if you started on the left? Quite a few people I know are reporting finishing times almost 2 minutes faster than their personal recorded time. They're also claiming them as PBs when clearly they shouldn't!

Hello!

Brand new to running, decided to get outside and do some form of exercise. Only been out for 4 runs, running 1.5-2 miles. Taking my time but loving it. Aim is to try a park run in the next few weeks.

My question is, what do I wear in the cold weather? I've a long sleeve top and a wind / water resistant jacket and shorts.

Thanks

Good to here it mate.

I've been feeling rough and haven't done a decent session for 2 weeks now. Last weeks session was the failed disaster but I don't think it was an off-day. I've been feeling really tired lately. I'm wondering whether being sick every day is beginning to cause a vitamin B12 deficiency, which has tiredness as a most common symptom; it's quite common in those who vomit a lot. Got GP appointment later and have a few questions to ask, so I'll ask that as well. MRI scan Saturday.

I was meant to do a speed session this morning but just didn't feel up to it....I went to bed at 10pm last night, I woke up at 6am to be sick, went back to bed and didn't get up until 9:30, and I'm still tired. It's a joke. Oddly, I actually brought food up as well today; had breakfast at around 10am and was sick at about 10:45. Bit of a worry as it's pretty rare for me to bring food up with this condition....

Just seem to keep running into hurdles frown

For me, I generally get warm after 10 mins.

11 Degrees, short sleeves, shorts
9 Degrees, short sleeves, shorts
5 Degrees, long sleeve, shorts, gloves.
3 Degrees, long sleeve + short sleeve top, shorts, gloves, hat.

Hope this helps.

Brilliant, thanks. Looks like I only need to invest in a hat and gloves.
