Hi guys, im really after a drive (passenger ofcourse) in somebodys VX220 Turbo as im curious to see wether or not i would prefer one to my Elise. I have heard lots of good things about them but really i need to see for myself if i want to px mine for one. I am in Andover Hampshire & would love to hear from anyone who is near me & willing to take me out for a spin & ofcourse i could return the favour in my Elise. Cheers guys.

Na your engine would only slow me down & upset the balance simply because it must weigh a ton on its own.. hehe
Nice pic though.

Unfortunately not in your area or would have gladly shown you my VX. What are the main things you think you'll notice and what benefits / negatives do you think there will be?

Friends of ours have an S2 with extra bits, and a 135. I've been on an airport day with Pat and Ian and their 135 so may be able to give you some comparisons if that helps! But will be in a better position to compare at the end of the month as we're all going to France together!

Reading some of your other posts, including in the Elise forum you seem to be pretty happy with the 'badge' element of the Elise so you need to make sure you'll be able to live without it.

Personally I was looking to buy an S2 111S until I drove a VX just out of curiosity and to my surprise totally fell in love with it - for me it was a much better package of a car for my needs - daily drive on motorway and twisties as well as driving holidays in France.

I still love the looks of the Elise, but I definately made the right choice buying my VX it's a gorgeous looking and handling car with enough power to make it a fantastic package for all eventualities.

Any advice is welcome. I originally chose Lotus simply because i had tunnel vision & wouldnt have even comptemplated anything else, i had never driven a rwd car let alone a 2 seater, so for me it had to be an Elise. I now realize that there are equally as good if not better equivelents out there & this is why i must try a VX220 before i make any other decisions. My Elise is being driven every day & i have done 12k in 1 year, so do drive it alot! I do miss some mod cons that you get in other cars that you dont in the Elise & considering i would never track the car, is it the right car for me? The poor thing isnt being driven half of what its capable of so i may consider something different in the near future & certainly havent ruled out a new S2 Elise as i do adore mine & could regret getting rid.

Mod cons...hmmmm Unfortunately the only difference between the two variants are that the VX has a drivers air bag and abs which is rubbish! both variants have the same issues getting in and out!

The drive of the car however is different. I find the VX a lot more comfortable - it has a softer set up than the Elise, and find that driving a couple of hundred motorway miles isn't a chore.

Don't worry about not tracking the car - if you look at the classifieds a lot of Elise and VX's boast that the car has never been tracked.

On the airport day I noticed a difference in the ride between my VX and Pat's 135 and conversely Pat commented that the VX felt a lot smoother. Therefore you should noticed a big difference between an S1 and VXT.

As you say, you need to go out in one to make your choice - try posting on the VX220 forum to see if there are any owners in your neck of the woods.

Hi boobles,

Although not local i spend quite a bit of time in salisbury/amesbury area for work/visiting family, ive got a vxt at the moment, previously owning an s1 elise and an s2 elise 111s,all 3 cars are great but the vxt is very different to drive although on a personal level i find it easier to live with on a daily basis cos i do cover a few miles due to work commitments.

I should be up in salisbury area again very soon, let us know if you are still looking for a ride,be more than happy to take you for a spin.

The vx is a lot softer ride,a lot quieter,i feel safer in it on motorways and its a bit quicker but can sometime suffer a bit of turbo lag-as all turbo's do.

I'm in Brum so probably a bit far from you but if your ever up this way drop me a PM

I recently took a guy out who wanted to know the same thing should he swap his S2 for a VXT

Mines running CS2 with 250bhp and 265 ftlb torque, he could not belive the difference that the extra torque and 100 odd ponys made...

and he's just bought a VXT!
