Hi guys.

Right. I now have 2 totally stripped Vixens knocking around the place. The hinges on one car were totally rotten and the better car are not much better.

I am about to start fabricating new housings in stainless but first the question.

Pretty sure Adrian / Steve will have chapter and verse here but..

Upon stripping the hinges out am I correct in thinking that the upper and lower hinges are slightly different but not handed left or right, save for the actual hinge arm? I stripped them all out and laid them on the floor and promptly forgot which hinge came from which side doh! The housings look similar left to right but different top to bottom.

Hi Neil
The difference in these will be the door stop limit (to stop the door opening too far and hitting the shell) one of these is fitted each side, the hinges are right and left handed, and you should look at he door for the hole and work that out (later M Series car have a different limit stop system and the hinges can be RH or LH, that is when they have 6 threaded holes in the alloy part) I would put the limit on the top hinge. There are packers that fit behind the hinge in between the shell and the internal bolts of the hinges have ground down heads to allow the full arc of the hinge.

Cheers Adrian.
I will work them out from the blue racer i think. the other two cars just resembled an amorphous mass of Iron oxide which is why I think I will go for stainless and nice button head nuts and bolts all round.

Unless of course you know of a reasonably priced source of alternative spares. I have rung around the old ford parts suppliers and have had more success sourcing rocking horse shit.

Hi Neil,
I do have NEW Zinc passivated steel parts to the hinges, and sell them along side/part of my reconditioning of the door hinges...If you need the hinges reconditioned then get in touch. (if the steel part to the hinge is too far gone to use, then these are an additional cost item)
