Hi - just bought a very cheap 1993 164 TS Lusso with 69k and FSH and the owner said I should change the cambelt ASAP... must admit I thought these had chains like the old alfetts engines ?
CAn anyone put me right ?

Engines look different and your car is around the time of the switch. If it says 16 valve on it then it's the cambelt one. The old twinspark engine was 8 valve. I've had both and prefer the old engine, although that was in a 75 which was RWD and a lot lighter than the 156 with the 16V engine.

Hope this helps

First of all new member so hi to everyone.
Regarding the 164, there were no models made with the 16v engines, these were first installed in the facelift 155. Hope that helps.

Being a pedant, there were actually pre-facelift 155's with 16v engines.

I think you have that the wrong way around.

There were facelift (Widebody) 155s with the 8v engine.

I've never heard of a Narrowbody with at 16v lump.
