Has anyone in here been to Angola? Particularly Lobito, Ambriz, Porto Amboim and Malongo (to fly offshore)???
Yes, for the past 4 years, worked onshore in Luanda, was OK but was sick every time I was there.Offshore I flew from the main domestic terminal, which has gone through some renovations recently. There's an air conditioned room with wifi and food (you get a food voucher when you check in) which is used by most of the operators in Angola and I've also flown offshore from Soyo, which is basically a large metal building sitting in the sun.
Okay
I have been there 17 years , the chances of getting off on your due date these days at this time of year are slim to say the least , with the recent removal of schiehallion where choppers could set down and wait a green deck adding to the problem. Recent sea state 6 rules for helicopters on route has compounded the issue.
So if you go be prepared to do extra time.
The place was designed for max POB of 70 , extra cabins have been squeezed in to accommodate up to 90 , they are not good , very small (think minimum permissable) and you can hear the bloke next door farting etc apparently. Currently and most likely for the foreseeable future will have max pob due to outstanding fabric maintenance and 6 month pigging program.
Food is quite good , unless on nights when the MN meal is quite dire.
Oh btw theres no flight on the 2nd Jan - first flight after NY is saturday 3rd ( I know as I'm due off on it having to do an extra 2 days due to holiday period.
Its not a bad place but was designed for a 15 year field life and now is showing signs of needing to be took off station and refit - the powers that be reckon all work will be done offshore (lol)
eta - there is a flight on the 2nd just remembered doh!!!!

Hi guys, can you explain the new rebreather system please, have they done away with the old rebreather EBS completely or is it an add on to the course. I did my bosiet a few years ago and really struggled with the rebreather. Thinking of doing it again as circumstances have changed so might be looking at going offshore. Thanks in advance..
I just renewed my offshore cert. You still use the old rebreather when getting dunked in the tank.gwm said:
Who's seen real impact of the low oil prices? Very doom and gloom if you believe the news.
After 4 years with my current employer I got my weeks notice of redundancy today Nearly all the guys in my squad were paid off 2 weeks ago.Company has no work coming in at all. I have the possibility of start in January but taking a big wage cut.
