Do I have to remove the engine?
Discussion
You either have to take the engine out or possibly you could drop the gearbox out of the bottom but only if you've got a removable crossmember under the gearbox.
Frankly having done mine last summer I'd say take the engine out as I can't see how it's possible to drop the gearbox out of the bottom.
I've done this on my s3 and have loads of pictures of the operation and if you need any advice just ask.
Regards,
Mark

page 193 of bible (the TVR S series second edition by Steve Heath .many links on this site if you search, excellent book)says
..."For the Ford transmission, the gearbox can be accessed and moved from underneath and the engine does not have to be removed. however it is a tight fit and may require some filing away of external webbing..."
Haven't tried it myself but will when the time comes, unless my numbers come up!

I sent the pictures of how I did it to Steve Heath (at his request) and they will, apparently, appear in the 3rd edition.
