Having just purchased an 05 cooper s with the JCW engine upgrade I was wondering whether or not i need to inform my insurance company of the extra power.

As the car is showing as a normal cooper S when i enter the reg details for any qoutes

Yes you have to tell them !

I got my car stolen and recovered, they sent an engineer to check that the car was standard prior to paying out.

If you don't declare and have an accident and they find out you're as good as not insured.

They also checked with DVLA that I had a clean licence etc so make sure you are 100% honest, they do check up on these things these days.

Absolutely - It will put it group 19 too, so you'll take a big hit. frown Worth it though biggrin
