I used to regularly see a red maloo ute parked on georges street in Dun Laoghaire late last year. Haven't seen it for a while now. I'm Australian so its nice to see one pop up from time to time!

Derek,

Not me yet, but I'm thinking of importing a new VXR8.

The main thing that's holding me back is the potentially crippling depreciation. I'm not sure there will be any demand for a 6 litre Vauxhall-badged saloon when I come to sell on - the thirst and annual road tax of €1300+ might put off used buyers.

I might try import and TVR Griff instead - much cheaper, but not much use as a family car! And need to get my head around the NCT regs for emissions etc...

Got a VXR trackday lined up in July which should help me decide smile

If you're worried about depreciation buy a £20k monaro, room for the family and I couldn't see it being worth less than £12 - 15k in 3 years.

I would, except that I need four doors and five seats. Even if I could put one child in the boot, two door cars are a right PITA with babies.

my mate has a red SS but totally standard he picked it up in mullingar and its now in swords he's an aussie to and he reckons he'l sell it b4 he heads back ..

John, i understand what your saying about the resale on the vxr... thats why i took back the ute coz lads can benefit from commercial tax and insurance plus its a little bit different if there self employed and fancy putting their company logo on for some handy advertising

I was planning to import a new Crewman SSZ from Oz last year but, as it's got back seats and isn't classified as a commercial vehicle, the VRT, customs duty and VAT on it had shoved the price close to €70k on the road here.

I bought a TVR Cerbera instead and about a month after I got the Cerb some guy from Scotland advertised an SSZ with very low miles on the classifieds on here for about STG£25k.

As it was already in the EU I'd have had it on the road for "sensible" money (no customs duty or VAT to be paid) ..... but her-indoors had other ideas. frown

i got stung as well 50 quid vrt (happy days) then 9,000 quid vat and duty ( oh shit) so id have to look at goin true the uk in future and see what the story is there.. i was gona bring in about 4 a month untill that happend but it was the only way to find out what was involved.. the only way to get around it is emmigrate to Oz (which would be nice)

The €50 VRT only applies to the Ute's.

The Crewman SSZ wasn't accepted as a commercial vehicle.

Anything with back seats and we are screwed.

Saw something very like that in Cork this afternoon, except it was a Ford. On Irish plates.

I saw that too heading up from West Cork. Not as big as I would have thought for a yank tank

thats the one... his came from the u.k. and there was a bit of rust on the standard system and with my system the v8 is well heard.. so he was lookin round to see if he could scource one, in the end he got one made up and i have to say the boys did a great job considering they'd never seen one before... Where did you get talking to him?

Who could they be? Yellow cars look great in tunnels.
