Currently looking at possible acquisition of a new XK or XKR (to replace the X-type as my daily driver) I was just wondering what the faithful thought of the recently released XK styling pack. Looks good? or just tack-on-tat. I'm undecided.

If nobody knows what I'm on about, I'll try to find some pictures...

Oh, and not having driven the XKR, yet, how's the supercharger whine when you stand on it?

Give Chas at Racing Green a ring +44 1252 544888 he will fill you in on that is available.

The supercharger wine is just great then the pedal is to the metal (or Ally)

I saw a new XK with the styling pack back in April on the JEC London to Brighton run and thought it looked rather good, although the bling chrome mirrors were a bit OTT on a Salsa Red car. I believe the supercharger whine on the new XKR is less intrusive than on the old model, in fact couldn't hear it much when I test drove one. Would definitely go for the R though, if had the funds.

The styling pack looks really good, but dare I say only on an XK8 and a convertible at that. There are pics of that red one somewhere and it indeed looks gorgeous.

The S/C is not as loud as it is on the outgoing model, just about right on the new ones IMHO. The XKR makes far more noise than the XK if it's that what you are after. the XKR is the 'one' to buy.

I am indeed leaning toward the R. Nice to hear about the supercharger whine. Thought that the old one was bit too loud.

I will probably wait for the 2008 model (or get it ordered). Am I right in thinking that British Racing Green is being dropped? If so, it will have to be slate gray with gray leather. Don't want to do black as the sun will cook you in black in Florida (as my wife has found out with her S-type)

ErnestM

PS: Did my insurance quote on this and deleting the X-type and adding an XKR - total difference $40 per year. It's a no-brainer.

Ernst.

Go for white if you are in Florida, or Salsa red!

From June, BRG is being replaced with botanical green, similar colour except it is a metallic. Slate also ends to be replaced by Pearl Grey. If you have seen the 'Moonrock' grey on Honda's S2000, you won't be far off.

A big no on white for me just due to the "lovebug" infestation twice annually. They really kill white paint (been ther, done that on another car)

The salsa just look, well, too Ferrari to me. I'll have a look at the 2008 XJ colours, as I imagine they will be the same across the model range...

Cheers

You either like the supercharger whine or you don't.

I'm not sure that I would pay the money for the body kit. In fact I'm damn sure that I wouldn't. It's a pretty enough car without all that. I would spend it on a good sports exhaust.

I agree. Ditch the body kit idea, the car is fine as it is, dont rude-boy it up.

Just talked to my local Jaguar dealer. He's going to let me know when they can start ordering the 2008 version. He says that the antenna will be going in the spoiler (says that they have replaced a few under warranty at the shop)

British Racing Green gone, but they have a regular XK in lunar grey. I might go by and take a look at it to see if I like that colour (slate is indeed being retired as well)

See I ain't making it up................................2008MY XK's are being built from June/July. Changes are numerous, just been told today that Jag are having to pull thr 20 inch Cremona alloys. Seems that there is trouble at BBS. Shame as although I like the Senta's they are a tad common now. Senta's will be standard on the 'r for 2008MY cars.

Jag are launching the Portfolio XKR for September delivery. These cars are SE, but are really showcasing all the new optional extras you will be able to spec on your XKR for September build.

BBS are currently in receivership (unless they have announced a buyer), the cost of Aluminium has gone up by nearly 100% recently with increased demand from Asia. Also the company was tied into long term supply arrangements with many manufacturers including Jaguar, therefore laterly no doubt BBS was probably giving the wheels to Jag etc at possibly below cost price because of long term contracts in place that do not reflect the current raw material and manufacturing costs. There are numerous parties interested in BBS it was and is a successful business but long term contracts are two sided, good for continuity of business and bad in this case when your raw material goes through the roof in price and you are tied down to a selling price agreed possibly years ago.

Yup, think that is the case. Shame as BBS wheels are mt fav.

Interesting, that Jag are able to supply the Cremonas for the XJ only, but also the polished Cremonas for the XK are still available. Seems that the receivers have torn up the existing deals maybe and wheels already produced will be available. Maybe in future Jag will make them avail again.

I couldn't get the cremona's when I originally ordered my XKR last year as they had been pulled, don't know why they readvertised them if they still had issues. I thought it was just a ploy so they could put them on the portfolio...

Steelej, yes they are a better looking wheel, kinda the 'Detroits' of the new XK. The Cremona's were for the 2008MY the standard wheel, interestingly if you wanted to have the Senta's instead on a 2008XKR you would have to pay an additional £500, so the Senta's are the the cream of the pack, but I hate the fake 'split rim' effect of the screws around the rim. Senta's will now be standard at no extra cost. Bargin....not!

The Portofolio's will have the polished cremona's, little bit chav IMHO.

Gatwick Jag have a used XK convertible for sale which has the painted cremona's (dunno where they came from) but it looks fabulous IMHO.

Oh well.............

Like you I did prefer the cremona's at first but the senta's have really grown on me, I think they're a "Sportier" looking wheel than the cremona, either way you'll love it biggrin
