After much to'ing and fro'ing, I have decided to give the Tuscan another chance of getting to Le Mans, after only getting me as far as Exeter Last year before eating the gearbox and resigning itself to being left in blighty. It now has a new Borg Warner T5 and is in for some fettling at present and a new MOT.

This was a difficult decision as the other option was a Z4M convertible with 343 bhp, a soft top and air con. I couldnt really go down that route however as the main reason I bought the Tuscan was to take it to Le Mans in the first place.

I had a slight issue with overheating a couple of weeks ago, although I think that may have just been excess water boiling over as the header tank is on a slant and it is difficult to check how much water is in it.

Short of keeping everything crossed there and back, would you guys have any other recomendations as to other things I should take a look at before leaving?

Thanks

Owen

If you have a problem with overheating, I'd recommend Water Wetter or a similar product from 76, both improve cooling properties of water.

You can't take spare everything, and you can be sure that you won't need the things you take and do need something you haven't got but the obvious things are:

fan belt
oil
bulbs
brake fluid
throttle cable
spark plugs
ignition spares
selection of appropriate nuts bolts etc
circuit tester
bug cleaner
hand cleaner
cable ties

I usually also take a socket set and basic toolset - pliers, spanners, wire connectors crimpers.

Didn't take an alternator, so that packed up last time..................

BTW if anyone has time to spare the following weekend it is the Grand Prix de L'Age D'Or at Dijon, one of the best historic motorsports meetings in Europe, a sort of French Goodwood Revival but with real racing - everything from historic F1 cars downwards. Probably a few Grannies in the FIA GT races.

What temperature stat are you running on the Essex V6

There was a 74 degree stat available (along with 81 and 88 degree) that was original provided for vehicles undertaking towing. Might be worth getting one of these (I used to run one in my Taimar) as it helps prevent everything getting too hot in the first place

I have got some pics which I shall post in due course, but I am pleased to announce that the Tuscan acquitted itself extremely well, and after bubbling off some excess water in the header tank in Plymouth it didnt miss a beat for the whole week.
