Well R1's are quick and nimble and my kahunas are large, but I'm probably not exagerating when I say single carriageway (60 limit) road, 120+ past me, 4 cars, over the brow of a hill, into the path of an oncoming car and a swerve to avoid what could have been very messy indeed.

Impressive driving, but I know my brain wouldn't have let me do that move, despite the fact I was on 2 wheels with a bigger P/W ratio.

Well Raggy has it for now. But I put it to you: What were you doing in traffic allowing Mr Turbo such a big run up with all that power and kahuna?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's fcensoredk all impressive about that kind of driving
(though I admit it is impressive that something with a brain that is clearly the size an ameoba, can actually drive a car at all.....)

I agree - not truly impressive in any sense, but you know what I mean.

Basically, I was in traffic (solid whites) having overtaken him about a mile previously.

He's 4 or five cars back.

I accelerate like one does on a R1 once the solid whites disappear.

I see him in the mirror pull out and gun it past the 4 or five cars, and just keep coming...

I reach my 'comfortable' speed rather than my true maximum, but he just keep coming and coming....round me, round another couple of cars and onwards to the brow of the hill. Sounded lovely I have to admit.

Essentially the whole thing was a question of how fast one dares go on the queen's highway - and I'm just not that mental.

Probably something to do with my job (sweeping up and mending broken people).

Yeh cos bike riders are soooooooo whiter than white.

Honestly if I posted the stupid things I have witnessed that bike riders had done it would be a full time job. Just this morning, biker decides he can't wait and overtakes several cars.......into oncoming traffic - driving down the middle of the road (on the white lines, with cars either side of him going in both directions, at speed.

Now the cars coming the other way were moving over to the kerb to avoid a crash. One day somebody wont do that and there will be bits of biker all over the road.

I can honestly say that of THE worst road manners I have ever seen, 90% are bikers.

I have this similar issue with bikers double SOLID white lines so no overtaking full stop and who do I see every morning driving round a blind bend past stationary traffic into moving on coming traffic but matey on his bike, I watch as people move out the way for some reason biker must have an invisble force field which fails when it gets to me as I dont want to put my car in the gutter to allow said lazy tt buy.

Someone please answer me what it is that makes this decision seem so clear cut for a biker ?

Get a bike, you know you want to evil

To those who haven't ridden a sports bike, you can't understand the extra visibility and manoeuvrability that you have on a bike. For starters you can see over cars which lets you ascertain what you can do far earlier than you can in a car. Secondly if you want to make an overtake you can nip out to take a view far easier than in a car and then if it's clear you have instant acceleration available that you won't get in almost any car on the market.

If you're riding in traffic your vantage point lets you see which cars are moving over for you long before a witness to the manoeuvre in a car has any indication what's occurring. Effectively all the information necessary to overtake in safety is available much earlier than it will be in a car.

If people ahead are moving over for you then you can make the overtake, if they're not you hold back and then overtake once there's room to do it safely. The amount of room you need to overtake on a bike bears no resemblance to that necessary in a car.

Sure, there are some nutters on bikes but if you've never ridden one you have to accept that bikes and cars have different capabilities.

yeah, you're right, I was just kidding.

But really, when I do a safely executed overtake, I get signs of dissaproval from other road users (yes I know when they are safe and when I'm being an idiot!) So don't you think it would be a mistake to condemn a driver on the basis of the OP's interpretation of events?

I'm sure he's not wrong, but we weren't there, the driver may have misjudged etc etc, but I don't think we should sentence him.

Sorry about this, I don't usually speak sense.
