TVR Car Club's Rockingham event set to be the largest ever gathering of TVRs

The TVR Car Club Diamond Rock at Rockingham over the weekend of 4/5 August 2007 promises to be the biggest gathering of TVRs ever.

The event celebrates the 60th anniversary of Trevor Wilkinson founding Trevcar Motors, the birth of what we now know as TVR and is open to all TVR enthusiasts, not just TVR Car Club members.

Here’s a list of what’s on when:

Friday 3rd August.

Members will arrive from around the country for either camping on site or local accommodation with discounted rates in a number of local prestige hotels.

 Saturday 4th August.

  • Members’ trackday
  • Demonstrations & passenger laps of TVR Power Supercharged V8s
  • Tuscan Challenge Testing
  • ‘Drive out’ into Northants and Rutland
  • Lunchtime members parade lap
  • Timeline representing 60 years of TVR
  • Exhibition of famous TVRs
  • Concours competition for the prestigious Larner Concours Cup
  • Autotest
  • Trader village
  • Dulford Automotive Rolling Road Shootout
  • Evening 60th Anniversary party with food, band and disco – coaches provided back to local hotels

 Sunday 5th August

The circuit being used for both the trackday and for Tuscan Challenge Races is the twisty 1.94 mile International Sportscar Circuit as used by BTCC – using both infield and bowl.

 Throughout the weekend will be:

  • Dedicated TVR parking area
  • Prizes for biggest convoys, best represented region etc
  • Helicopter Rides
  • Inter-region competitions

In addition a number of VIPs have been invited.  The TVRCC is pleased to announce that one of the guests will be Peter Filby, author of the definitive history of the early days of TVR, “Success Against the Odds”, who will be launching and signing copies of the rewrite of this book, now entitled “TVR – The Early Years” – at the Show.

May I take this opportunity of reminding those who may not have seen it on the TVRCC website that those elements of Diamond Rock for which there is an upper limit (ie the track day, evening party and camping) are all already well subscribed and when they're full, they're full. Many of the hotels and guest houses are also close to being full if not already fully booked.

We know that some people cannot commit early owing to work commitments etc and therefore have to leave it to the last minute to book but for this one we would urge all others, if you are thinking about coming, to get your booking form sent in as soon as possible.

Still too expensive to get in just for one day as I said before.£25 the wife £25 for me thats 50 quid we dont like grease burgers so we take our own food and we dont like listening to rackets (pop bands).
However Tivs are great as is the the banter, is there a discount for Pensioners no disrespect to the organizers just frustrated! It would have been worth it if the London Phil and fireworks were there.

Since this was posted last week I've had a couple of queries from non-TVRCC PHers asking whether they can come as well including one from a potential TVR owner. The answer of course is yes of course. This event is the biggest ever celebration of all things TVR so we would not wish to exclude any TVR enthusiasts whether they are Club members or not and whether or not you own a TVR or are just looking.

The booking form http://www.tvr-car-club.co.uk/Rockingham_booking_f... can be downloaded from the TVRCC website and shows clearly the prices for non-members (basically £30 per weekend pass instad of the £25 for TVRCC members). We know that some people consider that too expensive, but what can you get for £25 or £30 these days? Less than half a tank of V Power? And we;re offering a whole weekend of TVR related activities.

Even those who are not yet TVR owners are welcome as there will be a separate area of the car park for non-TVRs and with some of the traders we are expecting, who knows, you might go home on Sunday night having parted with your deposit for a TVR.

Don't know if this has been asked before.

The missus wants to know what the dress code will be like for the evening event. She is not convinced she needs a dress. biggrin

Is it going to be smart/casual like last year, or are we making it in to something special?

Cheers

Hi Adam

The code is Smart to Smart Casual. No Tuxedo needed.

However, I do think your partner should have a new dress if she wants one! wink

We are planning a special "dress to impress" event for 2008!

Hi everyone

As you might imagine, the preparations for our 60th anniversary bash, DIAMOND ROCK, are reaching fever pitch. The Evening Party & Camping etc are nigh on at capacity with the final few places going to those forms in the post. Call the office to get on the cancellation list. The track day has approx. five places left so be quick!
Ahead of the event I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to prepare for what is going to be the TVR gathering of all time – a huge amount of effort has gone into the event organisation and I am very confident that we’re all going to enjoy an absolutely fabulous weekend at Rockingham on the 4th and 5th of August..

If you haven’t yet booked your tickets, time is running out – the deadline for ticket purchases is Friday the 20th July – check out the information and booking form inside this issue of ‘Sprint’ and ensure your entry for this amazing event. As a word of caution to all members, only ticket holders will be allowed in due to our exclusive use of Rockingham for the weekend (there will be NO gate sales – we have to be able to direct our resources to manage the event and be able to make sure those who have booked ahead get maximum focus), so book your tickets now, and I’ll see you there!

Remember you don’t have to be a member, just an enthusiast so don’t forget you can bring friends, family and the nearest petrol head! Call the office on 01952 822 126 or you can download the booking form here FORM or get one by post by calling the Club Office on the number above

Keep watching this space for more "Rock" news

OK, off to pray for some sunshine……
