Now it will have the performance and sound to match its timeless looks.

Shame they dont offer a TVR Speed Six conversion for the best of both worlds.

Errrm. So at least when the engine breaks you can eat it? Its a well known fact that the internals of the Speed Six engine are made of dairy milk chocolate...

That aside - is that a Scooby engine in a classic Porsche?

This may provide modern reliability but its no longer the car it was. It may look like it. But its not. Whatever floats your boat, of course...

confused Looks like a V8 to me...

I think Scoob motors into 914's have been done a good few times and go very well, kindof a modern equivalent of the same engine.

INTRODUCING THE NEW 911 LS-1 CONVERSION!

November 2006... Renegade Hybrids has done it again! This time, not even the critics have a leg to stand on, as the quest for affordable, reliable, lightweight horsepower, for the Porsche model 911, has just taken another giant leap forward.

In 1997, General Motors introduced a simple, yet well refined, all aluminum version of their benchmark small block V-8, and called it the LS-1. Since then, this state of the art lightweight power plant, has become one of the most widely used motors in the kit car industry. Renegade agreed with the masses and last year they used the 944 platform to recruit the LS-1 into it's arsenal. This year the 350HP LS-1 has yet another new home... the engine bay of the 911!

Lighter, stronger, and less expensive than a turbo, the newest conversion kit will certainly power the 911 public!

Price and availability will follow within 30 days. ( pictures )

Wouldn't dropping a big V8 in the back of a 911 have an ...interesting... effect on the handling?

ETA: having read the post from when I wasn't looking...

Can an LS1 really be lighter than a 911 flat-6? Or is it just the standard american "we love V8s" thing going on. Even if it was fractionally lighter than the 6, surely it would have to hang further back if you wanted to keep the back seats? And would certainly sit higher up in the chassis.

The flat-6 sounds so much better too cloud9

Won't Porsche have to move to a V8 at some point or can the capacity of the current 6 cylinder engine be increased?

This has got to up the handling. The flat 6 lies low and therefore keeps the centre of gravity that much lower.

This is jsut stupid.

I'd have one of those in the front of my 968 in a second, as the standard 968 engine is so soulless. But wouldn't replace the 911 6 with it, ever...

I've seen 944's & 968's with this conversion - this V8 is apparently lighter than the 4-pot it replaces - so for them it doesn't affect the handling and gives a lot more power.

However on a 911 this is sacrilege (as was water-cooling)...
