Any ideas anyone.

REcently switched to Sky and using the netgear dg834gt wireless router that came from them (you're forced to use this one unfortunately).

Anyway when it works it's great, really quick but the connection only lasts for about 2-3 hours. After that all the lights are on as they should be on the box but no internet connection and I can't get into the router (using 192.168.0.1) either. The bloody thing just locks up and dies requiring me to kill the power and reset it.

Very frikin annoying.

Only settings I've changed are wireless channel to 11 and changed mode to G only.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

It's sounds like the normal Netgear problem of dropping the connection because it's getting clogged up (technical term I've been told). My DG834GT does it sometimes and I'm on BT Broadband. I have to unplug it and let it rest for 10mins then plug it back in.

When it stops working are you able to access the router via typing http://192.168.0.1 into a browser to do a reboot? Often when it clogs up with me I cannot access it this way, if so it's definitely the same thing.

I'm surprised about being unable to update the firmware. Mine wouldn't even connect to the internet until I updated it. I have to use an old modem to download the update then install it. Then it worked.

Just found this

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-router/1943-rou...

Apparantly there's a bug in the router which means you have to turn Upnp off in order to prevent lock ups. Done that so will wait and see.

It's a bit $hit really. Part of the Sky T&C's is you must use the supplied router which is a Nestgear DG834gt but it's hard coded with you login details so you can't use anything else.

There is a way round it though (detailed on that forum above) but involves flashing the unit. Can't be arsed wi that yet.

Wish I was getting those speeds from Sky BB. But at least mine is pretty reliable.

I believe people have figured out how to run a standard router on a sky connection, possibly worth a bit of googling or search the sky user forum.

Yep it is deffo possible to flash the router so it will release your login details.

Disables UPnP and it's still online after 12 hours so I think I'll leave it as is.
