Does anybody know why there would be a breather hose fitted to the top of my diff. ?

Are you sure its from the diff? I thought that my diff was blowing out oil from its 'breather' pipe, until, on closer investigation it was found that the pipe lead across the top of the diff to the carbon cannister.

Absolute bu99er to see unless the car is on a hoist.

Graham,

Thanks for your reply. I'm sure that the pipe comes directly out of the casting of the diff. I also get an oil film on the underside of my car in this area.

Andy,

That's exactly what I thought until the guys at Peninsula pulled it through back to the Carbon Can. The oil film in my case was directly from the oil mist breather off the cylinder heads! AFAIK there is no breather pipe on the diff.

Can't disagree with what you've seen first hand, but I understood the diff had a breather pipe that had to be upright and a certain length to work.
I seem to recall that it allows any vapour from the diff to condense and return to the diff, if its too short the diff will need topping up more regulary as it spews it out of the back. As usual there is a strong podsibility I'm totally wrong.............again .

Don't ask!

The S4C(oswoth) is back having a holiday at Peninsula!

All appears to be getting better following an outing to Folembray - great on the track but came back running on 5 cylinders - again!

Ask me next week.

We must get together for a Soton meet soon.

Cheers
