Hi All,
I bought an 03 Jaguar S-type in April 07 for £12,995 which was made up of a part ex and £4400 payment by debit card. The mileage on the vehicle was 33.5K and it had a full Jag History.
The dealer I bought the Jag from is a local independant garage.

On the 2nd day of ownership, we went on a holiday to Devon and due to great weather (stayed on the Beach), we did not use the car for 2 days.
When we went to use it, the car would not start and believed the battery was flat. The AA were called, and a jump start later we were running.
On return from holiday, the car did this again, and I believed it was due to the original battery not holding charge. So I replaced with a new one.
However, this occurred again (always) when the vehicle was left without use for >24hrs.
Eventually, after numerous non-starts, we called the garage I bought it from and they took the vehicle away. This was 14 days ago!

During the period the car has been with them, I have not been kept informed and they have not been straight, when I have asked questions to the exact diagnosis of the fault! I have written a letter, detailing the problems i've experienced and asked for a refund, adding a letter Trading Standards informed me to send. I've had no response back and they still have the car.

Where do I take it from now? Thx in advance for any advice.......

Thrillseeker, Sorry to hear of your S-Type problems, I'm on my second S-Type, both great, aside from some gearbox issues done under warranty with the second car. If you want to try for a refund you will need to quote the Trade Description Act and the fact that the car is not as described at the point of sale. I'm about to head of to Le Mans with my son who knows at heck of a lot more about this legal stuff than me, so what I'll do is have a chat with him and post back on this thread, but this will not be ubtil next Tuesday, I'm afraid. It sounds like your car has a battery drain and they can't find whats causing it basically!

It sounds like you have a drain on your battery, this time of year when you don't do much driving in the ddark it could be something as simple as the glove box light staying on.

You need to use an ammeter and shut the car down (leave it for a while to full de-energise and check to see the drain on the battery, there shouldn't be any) After that it's a matter of finding the leak. If it takes more than just over night to drain, it can only be minor.

Going in hard ball with the dealer demanding a fund over a relatively minor problem isn't really doing you any favours. You have to give them the chance to solve the problem. Failing that you have cause for argument.

Good luck.
