Water pipes rubbing on bodywork??

Last time I took the engine clamshell off (showing off again ) I noticed that there is a pipe (water?) running right through the centre of the car at the top. It is covered with heat-resistant foil and disappears into the car at the top of the bulkhead.

The top of the pipe appears to rub on the ridge under the rear glass screen - the foil wrap had rubbed off by the edge. The pipe also seems very tight, there is little play.

I'm considering just using aluminium tank tape to pad the pipe where it rubs on the bodywork. Anyone else seen this???

If you are talking about the blue one with red in the middle in www.lotus-elise.org.uk/m12/P1010484.JPG then that is actually the gear change cable!

If you are talking about the blue ones next the the tank filler - I'll have to take a closer look.

It's not got red piping on mine though - just silvery heat resistant foil, which is worn through where it goes into the car.

My cable seems a lot tauter than yours, could explain why my gearchange is so damn awkward. Then again, my girlfriend has absolutely no trouble changing gear, so perhaps I'm expecting more smoothness than there ever will be...

I think I'll go the gaffer tape route - at least it's not carrying water.

Mine is the same, it's a solid cable so I wouldn't worry too much.

If your really worried about it I'd mention it to the dealer at the next serivce. Alternativly a nice bit of gaffer tape will probably do the trick!
