More pictures of my Reflex respray
Discussion
As the title of the last thread (Trim Bits) didn't really indicate that I was going to upload a bunch of pictures I thought I had better start a new thread.
[edited to add more pictures from earlier]
Why I decided to respray:
Scuffed on the NSF:

Paint cracks in the recesses:

Standard stonechips on the front etc:

Prepping the car and fibreglass repairs:

Getting it ready in the oven for primer:

Now in a nice coat of primer:

So on the last picture, we were ready for the black basecoat that is necessary for the reflex paint. Now we have the basecoat on...looks pretty moody in that matt black.

Cut and paste it into here and then edit it to give a price for the whole job - start to finish. As TVR_Edd says, I should think that quite a few people would be interested at the right price...

both these Reflexed Cerbs look stunning IMO!
i have noticed quite a few late model factory built Cerbs finished in Reflex Purple cropping up recently and they look great! its a shame there aren't a few more similar examples about, as the shape of the Cerbera lends iteslf perfectly to these sort of colours IMO, as the roof, bonnet and wing shapes have enough curved surfaces to refract the light properly and display these colours to their full effect!
please do post more pics when the car is out of the paintshop! it should look fantastic in the sunlight!

I appreciate that a few folks are interested in the costs, so using my own car as an example, here's how the costs have been broken down:
Strip vehicle entire exterior: 36 hours
Repair bodyshell (fibreglassing): 8 hours
Prep vehicle for paint: 22 hours
Paint (primer): 8 hours
Prep primer: 4 hours
Paint (black basecoat): 8 hours
Prep basecoat: 4
Paint (3 coats): 12 hours
Prep (denib panels): 4 hours
Paint (2 coats clearcoat): 8 hours
Refit entire exterior: 36 hours
Polish paintwork: 8 hours
Total: 158 hours
Total labour @ £30 an hour: £4740
Paint @£374 per 0.5l: £2244
Laquer @£92 per 1.0l: £184
Dry goods (3m paper etc): £120
Giving a very scary total. Now please note that I am giving this car a finish that the factory could never have achieved due to cost-constraints. We are talking mint, perfect, exceptional paintwork on top of a flawless shell. And to achieve this there are no short-cuts. Equally this is also a complete colour change where the paint is 50% of the labour cost.
We don't do quick blow-overs.
We can however, tailer our work to a customers requirements and budget, but the reality is that quality takes time, and time costs.
For my bodyshop I would suggest that complete colour changes start at £3.5k and go as high as my example.
<footnote>
I realise that most folks are now whistling through their teeth, but would a £7k respray on a £150k Bugatti, Ferrari or Rolls Royce be viewed as expensive? It's only because TVR's are worth so little that the economics don't really stack up.

Literally this afternoon the first of 3 coats of Reflex paint has been applied...Looks matt in the pictures, it will get better as more coats are applied and then the clearcoat is put on.

I think this looks superb - is a matt finish an option? I would choose this over gloss, as amazing as the gloss finish is. I think the matt black basecoat looks awesome too. Wasn't there a 'stealth black' cerb in the Gumball last year?

I must admit it does look magnificent but if I spent £7k on a respray for mine I wouldn't dare drive it !
No doubt about it that mine is beginning to look a little tired but to be honest its now at that stage where I no longer worry about stone chips or supermarket car park dinks.
The engine was rebuilt last year so now all I do is drive it. I dont polish it. I just drive it and boy does it feel good !
