Alternative To Carpet Replacement

Having been down the carpet replacement route with my last Chimaera I wasn't looking forward to this one being off the road for a couple of days. I'm also slightly miffed that Coverdale started hiking their prices after several recommendations in these forae.
So I thought I'd have a crack at dyeing the carpets in situ. In the 'after' shot they were still damp so appear blotchy but in fact they dried out nicely.

shadowninja. Yeah I know. Much as I liked that car I eventually felt it was one litre short in the engine department 
This one's a work in progress too though.
It was a pretty straightforward job and took a couple of hours. I used a piece of normal washing up sponge (cut it into four) to dab the dye on. The dye came from a company I found on E of the Bay, I can pass on their number if you want.
At first I considered masking the leather trim but that would have taken for ever. Instead I used a damp cloth to wipe off any accidents while the dye was still wet.
The initial one litre can wasn't quite enough. It's a bit thin on the last areas I did so I'm about to get another tin and re-do them. I may have laid it on too thick but better that than the alternative.

How colourfast is the carpet dye? I tried a bit of dying on a small area on mine but I am still getting a bit of colour bleeding.

I'd like to know the answer to that too as I have used suede shoe dye on mine and it came off on my wife's jacket....How colourfast is the carpet dye? I tried a bit of dying on a small area on mine but I am still getting a bit of colour bleeding.

Dunno about colourfastness but so far so good. My 10 year old daughter climbed onto the parcel shelf the other day and I didn't need to soak her in bleach afterward so I'm guessing it's ok.
Might not suit everyone but for little more than a tenner and a couple of hours work it's got to be worth a try.
