Roll Bar Griff 500
Discussion
It depends what you want to do with the car. If you are going to compete in anything other than a road going class then you will need something that complies with the Blue Book. For this you will need to go to one of the proper roll over protection companies. I got mine from Caged and it was made specifically to fit the car and for where I wanted the seat, is very well engineered but wasn’t cheap.
If the car is mostly for road use and you simply want a little more peace of mind and somewhere to fix your harness onto then I recon the factory fitted one is fine. It won’t meet any of the regs because it is too thin and doesn’t have a diagonal. It does however bolt straight in ( and out again) without any mods to the car. Also it has the benefit of sitting above rather than below head height.

I fitted the Tower View bar to my 500 for peace of mind on the road and occasional track day use. Not a quick job to fit and does involve cutting the floor etc but well worth it in my opinion.
Colin.
ps If you decide to go for the Tower View bar I have some photos of my install which I can email.

Steve, Colin,
Thanks for the advise.
I will use the car for the odd track day in Holland on the Dutch TT track in Assen, from what I've seen on the trackdays over the last years the bars have to be very strong to in case the car tips over at high speed. Don't like to fit the factory roll bar for that specific reason. The thin bars could deflect on first impact. My g500 is modified with a hc 5.2 JE engine, this awesome machine needs a roll bar.
I will contact both caged & tower view for their quotes. Yes please send some pictures of the tower view bar fitted in your baby. If possible would also like some pics of the caged custom version as well. Do you think it possible to fit them myself. If you know anybody who's got one spare I am interested.

This is the one made by Cadged. The diagonal across the hoop can be removed so the passenger seat can be refitted and is only there because of the way that some scrutineers interpret the Blue book. The hoop is more than adequate without it. It has a large foot each side that picks up the chassis in three places (all existing ones so no new holes). The rear braces fix to the same bushes as the TVR one.
This comes in and out fairly easily, probably takes about half an hour. I think however that they would need the car to make it fit properly as no two are the same. This one sits slight forward and higher that the Factory bar which is OK provided your legs are short.

Can’t take a pic at the moment as the car is blocked in they garage by all the new kitchen units ( that I should be fitting rather than being on PH). Basically at the hoop base there is a substantial plate that attaches to the bolt that holds the body to the chassis corner piece, the threaded bush that was for the TVR hoop and the seat belt inertia real fixing. The plate is fabricated so that it snugly follows the internal contours and extends a little over the floor area.

Steve the kitchen units in the garage!!!!!!!! is this a cunning plan to try to finish before me by building it in the garage, taking pics and trying to convince me you have beaten me. Your secret is outBen I see you are still lurking around the TVR forums, do your associates on the Z site know you have browsing away form home ? I recon there is really a closet TVR owner inside, if only you were brave enough to admit it. After all in a previous life your Japanese thing used to have a proper engine in it (at least according to Mr Sterman)
Definitely going to win the kitchen race as now only three units left, the work tops and all the trim, can almost see the finish line. Anyway are you saying that you don’t have kitchen units in the garage ? I thought everyone did.
