I'm not going to go into too many specifics here or I'll fall foul of the forum rules......but, has anyone got an opinion on MCE insurance?

I used to have my Capri insured with them and had no problems, then swapped the insurance to my 300zx. Since then they seem to find it impossible to supply an insurance document with the correct details. It's been two months and still they can't get it right rolleyes

Hmmmm, they were going to charge me £25 for a Change of Address until I asked them "nicely" to reconsider. Perhaps their performance would have been better if I paid it!

It's a good job you can now apply for tax online as that's what I had to do as I still don't have an accurate insurance job.

I agree about the mileage thingy too. I'm limited to 5k in the Zed, but at no time have they asked for proof.

Hopefully ours are isolated incidents...as I mentioned they were fine when I first insured my old Capri last year. I certainly won't be risking them when I get the Mustang frown

I've been with them a few years, always best on price, can't remember what happened with mileage proof, I think none was ever asked, but maybe they request MOT's if a claim is made.
I think i had an issue with a detail incorrect on last renewal but nothing major. Agree they don't seem the most pro, just hope I don't need to claim.....

I had a different broker who couldn't get it right and it got me to tearing my hair out so i cancelled, took a major shafting and went to A-Plan. Just had the renewal from A-Plan and nobody seems able to beat it so I guess it's same again.

I use MCE but no matter how many times I've complained that the forms are wrong they get them wrong again.

their typos are completely random too.

Hi Steve

I'll send you an email from home tonight. Unfortunately, I never received the appropriate paperwork and have now changed cars. As my latest vehicle is a Mustang, I was informed I'd have to cancel the policy on the 300zx and take out a new one. After being told on a couple of occasions that someone would call me to quote on the Mustang, I heard nothing.

I have now insured the Mustang with A-Plan, but still need to cancel the 300zx policy as soon as possible.

I applaud you for coming on here, so I'll list the tale of woe in my email. Whilst it won't help me, perhaps lessons can be learned for others.

Cheers

smile

you have to wonder if they browse these forums on the look out for bad press! either that or someone tipped MCE off

Hmm I've got my truck insurance with MCE. The only problem I've had so far was that when I first bought the truck, it had a personal reg number, so I had it insured on this to drive it home. When I got the new reg, I rang MCE to tell them and they sent me new docs, no problem. A month or so later I got a stone chip on the windscreen repaired for free by quoting my insurance details. To cut a long story short, I nearly got charged for this repair as the claim was at first rejected, due to the reg number on the vehicle not matching that on the insurance policy! MCE hadn't passed on the change to the underwriters.... I guess I was lucky not to have been caught by an ANPR camera or stopped by the BiB during that time.

when I put a private plate on mine they charged me a £25 admin fee as they had to issue new paper work.
Bit of joke really considering how many incorrect ones they had issued in the first place
I was charged £30 by MCE, other insurers I'm with either don't charge for changes or make a nominal charge this includes specialist insurers and daily drivers.
I did email Steve when he posted and recieved a reply that the comments will be discussed at a future meeting, a better handled posting than the SPAX MD thread.......

As a barrister who deals with prosecuting regularly, I find a lot of insurance documents extremely sloppy. I've had experience of my own Camaro which was allegedly a 5.0 (sic) and nowadays, all you sometimes seem to get is a certificate with a name of the insured and registration mark. This applies as much to A-Plan (and Markerstudy who I'm with) as anyone else. Having such documents presented in Court therefore provides little information and if the plate was on a Sherman Tank as opposed to the insured vehicle, i wouldn't have a clue.

Zurich Insurance insure my Mondeo and their certificate is great - full name, address, reg.no, make and model and almost a signature - important in this age of computer generated certificates which a 5 year old could forge.

Also consider a family where you have a father and son both called David. Either one can produce a vague certificate so why not have a date of birth on the certificate as well? After all, we're talking about an impirtant legal document here. Oh and try checking one over the phone and you don't get far due to data protection.

I've noticed computer generated insurance documents have been 'simplified' over the years. It's no suprise then, people don't bother to insure if they can make their own to obtain road tax...

you can but 1 day insurance over the internet (about £10), print off the policy and it has been known, this is enough to get road tax - but apparently shouldn't be accepted at the post office, but is :-\

A) Just dial 0870 420 75 79 and see how long u have to wait ( multiply time with cost on 0870)
B) Cancel a policy and see how long it takes to have a refund (favourate answer: when insurer will refund we will)
c) Ask for the total deductions and compare with final deductions (listen to nice words like other charges)........

is that enough?

No? U will see at time of claim..................

Re MCE(stands for massive clerical error)
Its now 2008 november and their service has not improved. They had 3weks whilst i was already insured with Norwich Union,to find a company for a new policy.they took my money immediately there would be no problem we will be able to cover you .four appliccations later and all revelant documents and numerous expensive phone calls ,only to find three months later a letter from mce cancelling the policy "if i ever had one",due to incorrect info the differance between home address or office.now out of pocket by £118,for "admin fees"..!!!WISH I had read your comments on this site before changing brokers.
