It was inevitable - the tree lined street - birds that black out the sun - wings that whump as they pass. One of these beasties has emptied it's capacious arse all over the hard roof on the S. To be fair, a magnificent effort that would make an albatross feel more than a little bit smug.

I know it's a trivial question - but you lot know so much about the care of my beloved S - that I have to ask, are they any special preperations / techniques etc ... that I should be aware of - or is it a simple soap, sponge and guanno experience ?

not sure if this would work too well on other surfaces , but on paintwork seemes to work a treat..

believe it or not, and this does sound a little gross, if you spit on the poo and leave it for a minute or so it comes off much easier, as the enzymes in the saliva start to break it down .. now I tend to start salivating when i'm anywhere near my TVR so never a problem to work up a bit of a lather,

give it a try what tye worst that could, of course you have to get over he whole , 'i'm spitting on my car ' issue...but saves scratching the paintwork...

Couldn't say for certain, but I'd brush off as much as possible with a stiff brush, and then wash the residue off with cold water - this is just guesswork and not from experience.

Good luck - let us know how you get/got on.

Gentle brush when dry to remove the worst and then water to get the rest. Week washing up liquid solution if you have to. Then think about re-waterproofing if this has not been done for a while. My handy friend from Aston Martin's trim dept swears that Thompson Water Seal is at least as good as any expensive specialist preparation. It only costs £10 a tin and most liquids just sit on the surface after just one coat. Kepps my hood clean and dry!

I've just done the Thomsons on the roof over the weekend. After 2 generous coats, I tried a little test with some water which just beaded and rolled off.

Looks like it's going to p1ss down any minute, so it should get a good test then!

I discovered an interesting thing about low bridges today...

we all know that rumbling under bridges expecially with the roof off is nice...

but did you know that if that bridge also happens to be a wood pigeon refugee camp, a million of the feathery bs will simultaneously and instantaneously st themselves violently?

Well they do. (doo-dooh)

the ones today must have been raised on a diet of battery acid and nitromors because even though i washed the car an hour later, i can't polish the marks out of the paint!

Oh boy - that's grim ! At least they didn't get you with the roof off !

Thanks for all the advice guys - I'm going to clean it up this weekend and then tackle waterproofing the cover with some Renovo.

Talking of birds crapping over cars. I parked my Chim outside a friends house with the roof down, only to find that one of our larger feathered friends had emptied its bowls over the vertical part of the dash board. How in hells name did it manage to do that? Must have been trained by the RAF!

Well - over the weekend - de-poo'd the roof with a sponge (all came off easily) - and then applied that Renovo stuff (that someone suggested in another thread). Seems to be pretty good - water beads up as soon as it touches it now and a slight leak problem on one side of the roof seems to be dramatically reduced which is good. Also the plastic polish for the rear window is very effective.

The only slightly tricky thing with the water proofer is that it does run somewhat so it's very easy to get it on glass or the bodywork which isn't quite what you want. Managed to get it off the glass using scrunched up newspaper and elbow grease. On the body work it can cause surface scratches to appear and look quite scary - but infact it comes off in a single wipe with just a dab of white spirit.

Thanks all for your help.
