Lovely looking dark blue Noble seen north and south on the A1 @ Eaton Socon this afternoon cool

Also saw this smart Aston V8 Vantage S Roadster parked on the road just along from the Liebherr yard in Biggleswade on Wednesday afternoon -

Before I forget...

Caught this interesting Bentley for a shot northbound on the A1 yesterday, but i'm not too well up on the older models so any ID suggestions welcome (Continental T?...) smile

You been trying to spot lorries around my workplace MC? biggrin You missed a good one on Thursday afternoon, big tractor unit with extending trailer and an enormous demolition excavator boom on. Had the pleasure of craning it off in the workshop. The driver said coming back over from Germany through the tolls he forgot how long it all was, the barriers closed and he ended up ripping them out!

Seemed a much better idea than trudging around Matalan over the road with the folks! biggrin

Have been down there a few times just recently to see whats parked up along the roads through the industrial estate there, have pointed the camera at some very tidy wagons and machinery!

There were two H.C Wilson Scanias being loaded with diggers when I was there on Wednesday afternoon (One small tracked one and the other with an LH-30 (IIRC) rubber duck.) Always a nice fleet to see and a good bunch of lads too.

Like the sound of that demolitions spec boom, the really big ones always look interesting when loaded aboard a splitty!
They do indeed take some very careful driving to move I've heard!... yikes

Too right! Yep there is some smart stuff that goes in and out of there. The 'Ponsonby' lorries are usually absolutely immaculate and impressive to see. As for LHs they're not even worth taking out the gate because it's probably already broken down biggrin much worse than the outgoing 900 series of materials handlers which are some of the best machines that company has ever built. But I didn't say that biggrin

Oh yes, Mike Ponsonby runs a stunning fleet! Some of his rigs are getting on for 6-7 years old now, but they all look fresh out the box! Always a pleasure to see fleets with drivers/bosses who really take pride in their gear. thumbup

He's just put a brand new Scania Golden Griffin on the road BTW (Ltd edition model of 50 units to mark Scanias 50th anniversary of selling trucks in the UK. He's got No.30 I *think*. An R580 6x4) which will be well worth keeping a look out for as i'd imagine it will visit the yard at some point. He's going to make it work for a living instead of keeping it as a showpiece like a couple of other hauliers who have invested in one are going to do apparently...

There was two MAP rigs down at Liebherr getting loaded when I stopped by briefly back at the start of October, see here for a few pics smile -

Take your word on the material handlers lol! From a few of the ones I've seen being taken up and down the road it would appear some do lead quite a rough life.

Impressive pictures there MC! Bloody hell he must have made a fair fortune to be able to do that! You'd almost feel guilty taking one anywhere near the road salt!
You are not kidding about them living a hard life, only today we had a completely destroyed slew ring bearing and slew pinion, stripped teeth, the lot. It's only when you go into a scrapyard and see the amount of abuse and (mis)use they get that you realise why! Dragging lorries along the ground with them, trying to tear out transmissions etc. It really is mechanical torture.
As a bit of a tip off I believe on Thursday morning that demolition boom section I was on about will be going out on the lorry so it might be worth getting down there with your camera. I nearly finished building it all up today, it's had to be built up from its component bits so it can go out as one on a lorry down to East London, meeting the base machine on a job there. If I get an idea of roughly what time it'll be leaving I'll let you know.

Cheers thumbup

They ran an article in a recent edition of Commercial Motor about Mr Ponsonby and his fleet. Was a good read and he came across really well too, seems a real enthusiast as did all his drivers as well to be fair. One of the few hauliers that still see correct roping and sheeting of bulky loads as a skill, rare thing these days on the whole!

Crikey, that's some pretty hefty damage! That would take some doing!... yikes

Working on scrap yards or waste transfer stations like quite a few handlers seem to end up doing is quite intensive work though. Got to have a fair bit of mechanical sympathy too.

If you get any more info on that boom section i'd certainly be interested in making my way down to see it! Cheers for that, would make an excellent pre Xmas heavy haul spot/phot that's for sure!

A very well driven Talbot Matra enjoying the Milton Keynes roundabouts with me just now. I must admit, shamefully, I thought it was a new shape Mini Cooper judging by the lights in my rear view mirror. Just wiki them though. What a brilliant little car. And nice to see such a thing being used.
