Struggling to get a real picture on Mini2 forum, so I thought I would ask the question here.

After rejecting my wifes R56 Cooper S at the end of last year after the ruck of usual problems, I was wondering if it is still too early to jump back in and order another one?

I am hearing stories that many poeple have had issues resolved etc. so wondered if a fresh factory build now would prove to be of the quality I would expect?

All advice/comments much appreciated.

So I got mine a couple of weeks ago..and have done a few hundred miles...

Issues so far are a rattle from the storage compartment (which is getting looked at tomorrow). Other thing, not sure if it is an issue is teh sound of running water from behind the passenger side dash on cold start ups...probably nothing.

Otherwise I'm very happy with my car...and I hope it stays that way !

If you are considering I'd wait and get one built from WW31 with the new stop/start features etc.

i agree.

except.. they'll inevitably struggle to get that right first time and you'll be conking out at every other junction..!

Although, they have been practising the stop.start function on the diesels haven't they, so hopefully a little more tested than the other other issues!

Thanks for the advice.

Been implemented on the 1-series so can't see any issues. If you are this close to that date would be maddness to not get it. Also has some alterations to the cruise control and USB is now supported.

Yes the stop start works very well on the 1 series. They do sometimes restart without you depressing the clutch but that is supposed to happen in some circumstances.

My gearbox noise has been sorted and has not come back. I threatened to reject the car, formally wrote etc, and BMW and the factory came and inspected the car. They then approved the puma repair (all dealers are aware of it) the car was in for three days where the flywheel was altered and all the components remated. The result is that no matter how hard its thrashed the noise has gone. At the same time the rear suspension was rebuilt with revised mounts (another factory thing) which has got rid of the rear knocks and finally the dashboard was pulled so all the rattles were resolved - mainly the one around the ignition slot.

Car now is running great but will probably punt on by the end of year, cos I'm getting a bit bored with it and fancy something new and quicker...!

Such as............new R56 works?

I was thinking about an R56 but keep getting drawn to an Elise as they are competative on price (depending which spec Elise you look at)

Elie is quite different from a mini... strange comparison.

Personally I'd love an elise but have 2 kids so needed something with 4 seats and a boot (and the mini's one just qualifies as having a boot). I basically went as fun and impractical as I could get away with.

I've had a couple of Elise's and to be honest in day to day driving the mini is better and way more practical. Track driving etc the elise is better but there is not much in it to be honest. A really good driver will have more fun in an elise and avergae one more fun in the mini. Having said that you'll have more fun on a bike than either of them!!!! wink

If I change I'll be going for either something German or Italian wink Once end of year accounts are done and tax sorted I'll go look. Its been quite a good year....! smile
