I'm trying to replace the rubber seal around the rear section of my Griff's roof, which previously appeared to be stuck on with black silicon. My problem is that I can't get the new seal to stick in place tightly enough with silicon, so I've come to the conclusion that there's a technique I'm missing, or I'm using the wrong glue!

Has anyone else replaced this seal, and if so, what did you stick it in place with?

Cheers,
Pete

I think what your after is Sika flex, It's a low modulus silicon. Obtainable from Part Co. or automotive parts type companies, you won't get it a B&Q.

To hold seal in place until silicon sets, I would use masking tape of similar.

Hope this helps.

I concurr, sikaflex is the stuff. They bond windows in and panels on with it. Be prepared for the expense tho' cos its a lot dearer than normal silicone (and probably looks a dogs arse smeared round your bath!

Ask your friendly local windscreen fitters to do it for you - save you buying a pricey tube.

Well, I've finally fitted the damned thing today! It seems that the secret is to just lightly hammer the seal into place - it has steel inserts in the rubber section which hold it tight if you push it on hard enough. Combined with a pop-rivet at each end I only needed a couple of blobs of Evo Stik on the curved bits.

Cheers,
Pete
