I have finaly bought the new shocks and springs for my S2. After much deliberation over the following combos,

1.Koni originals and original springs for the factory, problem is no front springs available (from Dreadnoght). Feedback was this would be average.

2.Avo adjustables, with replacement standard springs from Steve Reid, springs not available at the moment. Good feedback about these but time delay in getting springs.

3.Spax fully adjustable (ride and height)with replacement standard springs from David Gerald - available now. Equally good feedback about these, and available now.

I have gone for the 3rd option, coming in at £690 for the 4 corners pre-built and delivered. I'm planning on fitting them over the weekend, so just wanted to check if anyone had tried these? Are they any good? and are there any issues to watch out for when fitting?

Cheers

I've had many and varied problems with Spax in the past but hopefully you will have better luck. The Gas Spax are advertised as not needing bleeding but my source at Ripspeed advised me they needed bleeding, and I found they were very eratic until bled. This is just a matter of holding the damper upright, setting the damper adjustment to fully soft and fully opening and closing the damper a few times, then keep it upright while loading the springs and fitting ot the car. Unfortunately this requires unmounting the springs which is a pita. You might choose to fit them as they are and see if they work alright without it - it's relatively easy to pull them off the car if you decide they do need bleeding after all. Mine had a screw adjuster. You can position the damper so the rear adjusters can be reached with a long screwdriver poked through the wheel, and the front adjusters can be reached by a screwdriver round the back of the front wheel. From this point of view, the Spax were the easiest of all the dampers I've tried to get at and adjust.
