V8S front brake discs........
Discussion
My V8S had the same brakes as the S2 i.e. 240mm vented, 22mm thick if memory serves. My local motor factor matched them against a Sierra 2.0 estate, the discs used to cost me about £16 per corner. Standard OEM or pattern discs are fine and you should be able to get them from anywhere. Be more careful about the pads as most places have no idea about the difference between the pad types/compounds - you need a good fast road pad compound which you won't find at your average motor factor or dealer (although they will try to pursuade you the standard pads they have are perfect for the car, don't believe them).
. . .from memory again - I agree with Matt - 1.8 non abs sierra. I replaced mine last year (V8S) - if you can wait 'til this weekend when I'm back from the USA I'll confirm the part #. Mine were a genuine replacement from a very helpful local ford dealer - they did need ordering though but came thru in a couple of days.
Thanks chaps, heres how the story ends. PARTCO AYR. 2 new discs (Sierra) vented, £19.88 pence for the pair including VAT. Unlike what it says in Steve Heaths Manual ( page 90- S Series)that the V8S discs are 267 mm, mine is the standard 240mm.Perhaps the latest models were upgraded to the bigger disc. I decided to change the discs when I noticed that the inside of the discs were well scored and worn. The pads had about 5 mm left on each side. When I dismantled the brakes to replace the discs and the pads, one of the pads fell apart, i.e. the lining seperated from the metal backing plate. Glad I checked them in time.Maybe the 400 mile drive last Sunday taking part in the TVR Highland Drive just knackered them completely!!!!Anyway its good to know that the front pads and discs can be overhauled for under £50!!! Ford wanted £50 each side for the discs alone, eh, no thanks, thanks be to PARTCO!!
