phsycho will be along shortly to tell you to spend thousands on the old tractor engine.

You have 3 options my friend:

re-build and stay original
2.0 Zetec or 2.3 Duratec and 200 easy hp, lightweight and handling
302 V8 with alloy heads, same as Essex in terms of weight but far more grunt and the noise, OOH That Noise.

Rebuild it - its not an expensive task. There are enough cars being bastardised smile.

Rebuild the tractor engine, it suits the character of the car, plenty of torque (which you will not get with a buzzy four pot plus you'll get a chavvy exhaust note!!!)

4 choices :-

1) Sell the car broken and get nothing for it (bad move)

2) 2nd hand Essex for 150 pounds - (cheap fix)

3) Essex Engines 3.4 conversion - perfect !!!

4) Build a "Bastard" with a 302 .... but you'll need to replace everything else around the engine (rad, T5 gearbox, diff, rear wishbones, driveshafts .......

I'm going down the 3.4 route with the next project with a four speed box - yes the car is fibreglass but not a TVR :-)

Hmmmmm

Lost all form of sensitivity trying to extract the right hand manifolds this weekend :-)

The new alloy heads had swarf in them and some crap machining so I had to send them off to be tidied up ....

Spare rear uprights - the drums are seized onto the hubs so I can't get them off .....

The 3.07 diff still has the Jag discs attached and they're wanting to stay there ....

Rubber bushes in the rear uprights only came out after I lost all self control and set fire to them with the thermo nuclear lance .... fortunately it was raining so no one noticed the thick black pools of smoke .....

Bastard is about right :-)

Well done Jos - it was a pleasue being of assistance. I enjoyed Sunday and wonder why a series like Belcar could not survive, indeed thrive in the UK.

I thought JoKos car was GA block with RW heads??

The question was, what would you do?

If I had a tired V6, in need of a re-build anyway, I'd have it rebuilt to a different state of tune.

The question is, what do you want to achieve and what resources have you to get what you want?
You have to think long and hard about what you want to do with the car, how long you might keep it, you have loads of options.
As for engine transplants, yeah, they are a real consideration, the ones I've seen have sounded good as I went past themtongue out.

Niel,

You should'nt call Daftlad a Psycho it's not nice.

So what makes a GA block different to a "Transit Van" block ??

Can you still get them as the full works GA engine with heads I was offered was the same price as a small house ??

Anyone ever seen a Lucas fuel injection set up for an Essex ??

Not a Lucas one, but Gilbern fitted Telecamit-Jackson Fuel Injection to about 9 cars. Funnily enough, I have one sitting in the workshop that I've not yet fitted to a car, if anyone's interested.

Not Lucas/TJ/KF, but, I hear that that Adrian@ fella is running an injector system through the 38 DGAS butterfly setup (erm, slightly bored 38 DGAS) with full ECU control, OK it's on his Turbo but it will run on the normally aspirated car too. I not sure where I heard it but....
