I'm changing cars this week (from WRX to an Evo VIII). Currently I have a road angel classic and use the serial output from this to give the GPS input to a PDA running Tom Tom. The custom cable for this is hard wired into the car. Due to the hassle of re-installing in the new car, and the cost of updating the Tom Tom software I have decided to buy one of the new all in one satnav and gps speed camera systems. This will also have the advantage of being easily transportable to my wife's car and my TVR.

I had originally discounted the Tom Tom system, as my main priority is the speed camera detection capability, and as far as I am aware the Tom Tom system is not that great at this, i.e. does not give directional warnings, data base is not that good and it does not give the mobile camera sites.

I came across the Talex TT software which can be installed on the Tom Tom devices and claims to resolve the issues with tom tom, see link.

Just wanted to check if anyone had used this and what there thoughts were on the system. Alternative options would be one of the snooper devices or the Pogo drive.

Just bought this myself - seems like the ideal solution: class leading satnav plus good quality camera software & database.

So far I'm impressed - was simple to install and much more functional than TomTom's camera software or the TomTom poi functionality. However I'm still reserving judgement until I can properly check the database quality. I'm used to the Origin database which is excellent.

Some other random points:
- takes 2-3 days to come through, even if you buy on-line
- can't find a way to change any settings (e.g speed/direction sensitivity). Obviously this isn't a problem if you like the way it works out of the box.

I'm edging towards the Pogo drive unit as it looks to be the best speed camera system and also pretty goiod sat nav. Still considering the tom tom though as there are some good deals available at the moment and the Talex subsciption is also cheeper. How good is the Talex TT sofware in camera only mode. Also did you figure out a way to modify the settings?

Just seen the Road angel navigator 7000 for $129 at local Lewis's branch, which seems very cheap, but I have seen some pretty bad reviews of this device. Anyone know if the software updates can fix some of the issues?

I finally decided that I needed a unit with a dedicated speed camera mode which ruled out the Snooper devices (the snopper devices also failed to find my address from the postcode). Also wanted the mobile van sites which ruled out the Pogo Drive (for now). So eded up buying the Road angel 7000 for John Lewis for a bargain £119 (knocked him fown a further $10 quid for the last Ex diplay model). I realise this device has had some fairly bad reviews but first impressions are better than expected. The Camera only mode is great and has been spot on locally (would like to change the alert tone though if possible). The Satnav has also been fine, for my requirments, and better than my old Ipaq with Tom Tom 5.

The menu system is a major pain though especialy if you need to use the satnav regularly and plan more detailed routes. However if I needed to use the more advanced sat nav features I would recommend a dedicated sat nav device.

Still may consider the Pogo Drive if they add mobile camera locations. Just noticed that Pogostore.co.uk do a trade in deal for £119 plus the road angel 7000. (thats £180 trade in for the RA 7000)
