Caught a glimpse of this at Brent Cross today: Hot Laps Challenge in a Mazda RX-8 or MX-5; anyone take part?

They're looking for a champion. Anyone tried this?

Hi, I wondered if anyone on here would post.

I went along on Saturday morning. It's been advertised in the London free papers so I was expecting it to be quite busy, but basically turned up and I was having a go within 15 minutes.

You get one lap to drive the course and work out where it goes, then two timed laps, one in each car. You have to do the whole thing in second gear, and they make time additions or deductions for driving style (use of throttle, steering inputs etc.)

Was good fun, although the two tight corners in second wasn't the ideal gear and the car struggled to pick up (esp the RX-8), the MX-5 was generally a second quicker.

They then let you do a passenger lap in the RX-8 with some sort of drift merchant behind the wheel, but I couldn't be bothered with that.

It's on again this weekend coming, so might be worth having a go. Prize is a trackday at Donnington, so there's not a huge amount on offer, but it is free (and they give you a hat!)

EDITED to say - they don't have my times on the website - not impressed!

Absolutely free, didn't even have to pay to park at Brent Cross, although I got the car cleaned while I was up there for £6.95......

Is this done from a standing start? Must go through a lot of clutches if it is!

You have to be in second gear as you cross the start line, but there's very little room from where you start to where you cross the line, so the long and the short of it is, it's a rolling start, but they're probably going to go through a lot of clutches!
