Decision time soon , I like Porkers a lot....... always have done, had three in the past and am now looking to replace the Griff, not like for like ( considering a TR 3A !) are they( new TVR ), you know........ solid enough ?

Who, apart from me has had both, TVR and Porsche.

Whats it to be GT3........or Cerbera , Tuscan or T350.....?

I can't comment as I've not owned both marques. However if money is no object and you wish to razz the crap out of said vehicle on a frequent basis, I would suggest there is only one to choose from your list and it doesn't come from Blackpool.

Me thinks that Beenno and or Flasher have been occupants of both marques in the past, might be worth trying them via their profiles.....

Never driven a GT3 or 996 TT, other than that I would say TVR every time. I took a 996 C4 out for a spin last weekend and although it was fun (not as much as my Cerb), it had none of the character my Cerbera has, none of the noise, none of the head turns and not as much power. I would be tempted by the 996 TT but at the price??? Cerbera wins on that too. I used to love German cars but now I hate them, like everyone else tells me "How the hell are you gonna drive something else now!!!" And I say, "I won't unless I can get my hands on a T440"

I would see myself getting bored of the Porker after a few months, done 3K in the Cerb already and still everytime I get in it.

Generally, Porsches are pretty boring. But they have made some exceptions to the rule.

Get an interesting one,and you can have your cake AND eat it.

The GT3 is a current bargain at around 40k

The 993RS is not a current bargain, still 40k, but came 2nd behind a MacF1 in Autocar's sports car of the century.

The 964RS is cheaper at 25k upwards but a bit more extreme for road use

Unless it had a Turbo, a GT, Club Sport or RS badge on the boot, I wouldn't touch a Porsche if you were after absolute character. They are too refined, too polished, too practical to fight it out with the Tivs. Go for the diamonds that have been cut a bit rougher, but shine twice as bright.

18 months in a 355 then I went into a new C4S for 3 months which I have just sold to go into a 2000X Griff 500 which I pick up tomorrow!.All are fast but two have buckets of character and noise and one will live forever - depends what you're looking for I guess

Had a 930 and a C.S., I only go for the polished diamonds, hence the Griffith and the Focus R.S.

Thats never right is it £40k last time I looked cheepest I saw was about 70k granted it was a while ago.

Might just have to re mortgage the house.

Going looking for a gt3 and a building society

Michael,

Probably best to do a bit of both, depending on funds.

When you consider what Domster has said about the 964RS and the insane depreciation now affecting early 4.2 Cerbs, you could potentially have a brace of stunning automotive nookisma for between £40 and £45k.

Many ex-Cerby owners have a hard time forgetting the bugger; I think Basher, another esteemed PHer, who now enjoys an utterly stunning, red F355 Spider, wishes to re-embrace Greek mythology at the earliest possible opportunity.

And despite the abuse one would endure from Herr Domster von RS, I can well see myself partaking again.

Looks good in black doesn`t it. Just bought Alfa 147 for my partner in black. She loves it .
I`m thinking red GT 3 ( not C.S) from Brussels maybe ,don`t mind LHD , touring Europe could be a bonus.
Nostalgia time:
I remember buying six titanium plugs from the dealer in Chelsea , circa mid eighties, @ £30 each.

I think Domster was probably refering to LHD prices. Definitely a performance bargain.

it's true - you can get gt3s in lhd for 40k, and that's the RIGHT hand drive (even if not right hand drive) for these stuttgart creations. Horses for course, but i've owned and driven both LHD and RHD and there is a lot of unnecessary fuss about left hookers. Good for the people who buy them, though, so I shouldn't complain.

I dunno about the Griff being a polished diamond. They are a diamond for sure, but a polished one?? They are pretty rough and ready like the interesting Porkers.

930 and CS simply means RS-dom must be embraced - and not of the focal variety

I've had both -- a Chimaera 4.0 and now a standard 993 C2. The difference is quite clear: one prioritises noise and excitement which has clear benefits, the other prioritises holistic engineering, which has it's own attractions. Depends what you want

Sorry manek, ordinarily you'd be "bang on" in your summary which would certainly be pertinent to comparing a chim and a C2. However the GT3 is Porsche's way of giving you the best of both worlds, the engineering of a Porsche with the raw feel and feedback of a TVR. Different kettle of fish to a C2.

Went for a thrash in a mates 993 S and it handled nicely enough and it was quite comfortable and stuff but didn't sound anything special (he has sports pipes too), looks ok and wasn't that fast (compared to my Tuscan). Oh yes, and I can take my roof off!

Depends what you want really.

I drove a 996 with the official Porshce sports exhaust (don't know if it'll fit on a GT3 though) and it sounded very, very good (from inside the car at least).
