hello,
i have a 98 xjr, and i didnt use the car for a few weeks, then when i went to get in, nothing worked, so had to use the key to get in, the car didnt start, the battery was dead.
this also stopped the boot from being opened and the key wouldnt unlock the boot, so in the end i had to put the jump leads on to a part of the fuse box to get it started.
Now its working fine, but the remote doesnt seem to work now? plus if i open a door, the alarm will go off after a short time (10-15 seconds).

any ideas on why the remote dont work, ( its not the batteries) and why the alarm goes off.

thanks for any help.

thanks for your reply,

when you have a dead battery, after you recharge it, do you have to reprogram the alarm fob? as mine has stopped working and it worked fine before.
am i able to reprogram it myself?

thanks

I've seen various sets of instructions for reprogramming the key fobs posted on www.jag-lovers.org in the X300 forum. I think there are different methods depending on what version of the car you have.

has anyone tryed the flashing the head lights mode, does it work?

do you press the light button on the fob or using the full beam stalk?
plus when it says do it five times, does that mean the whole lot or just the flashing the lights four times then unlock/lock button on the remote x 5?

sorry, just a little confused, lol (dont take much)

thanks

yikes You jump started it through the fuse box? yikes

f censored ck me, that's risky. Some of the circuits carry tiny amounts of current and not all have a true earth.

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins or longer, make sure it's fully charged, then re connect.

This may be all it needs to reset the various modules.

Lots of WD 40 and careful key wriggling usually gets the boot lock to work again.

As suggested, check out Jaglovers for alarm programming

There is a live terminal on the o/s just in front of the black plastic trim that covers the brake booster/master cylinder

If you pull back the rubber boot YOU could CAREFULLY connect your positive jump lead onto that nut, should not be a problem jump starting it there as that lead goes directly to the starter motor

Would always reccomend connecting directly to the battery tho & preferably with a jump pack, as jump leads can cause serious current spike through your electrical sys, poss that you may have popped a fuse somewhere, you have 5 fuse boards to check though so good luck

As trooper suggested, would have a good go at getting the lock barrel to work as well for future reference

Hope this may be of some use

lol, blimey, you all seem shocked that it was started near the fuse box,
but i read that was the only way of getting it to start and that was on i think JAG LOVERS website.so it must be a way that people have tryed before?

anyway, the car is fine, now i just want to know about resetting the alarm fob, do i need to go to a jag dealer to sort it?

Try this for your Fob reprogramming:

http://www.jag-lovers.org/ebooks/view.php?Vbook=x3...

If you would have said that you jump started it using the remote battery positive terminal instead of "onto a part of the fuse box" nobody would have showed any concern.....wink
