Hi All!

I have the draper fault code reader and I'm trying to connect it to the three-pin diagnostics plug. (2.9 v6) The reader has a red, yellow and blue wire. The car has a litle black thing with a red cap on it in the footwell. This black thing has a red wire, a blue-yellow wire and a brown-blue wire. It must be the SD port.

When connected like this

Wires Car -*- wires Reader:

red -*- red
blue-yellow -*- yellow
brown-blue -*- blue

I get a continuous glowing led on the reader.....no codes.

Probably wrongly connected. What is weird is that the red wire has a black wire connected to it going somewhere.
Oh..and I'm doing the first step "ignition on- engine off". So simply 1) FCR in 0 possition 2) ignition on 3) then the FCR in - possition.

Can anyone enlighten me? I'd be very thankfull.

Cheers

Olav

I think that is the octane adjust connector and you don't want to connect it to that. Will go outside and check now.

Edit: Yes, that is the octane adjust connecter that retards the ignition. Look for a connector with a black cap on it.

Thanks for the reply!!
octane? Oops..bugger.

Hmmm according to "the bible" wiring to the SD connector should be:

ng - brown green
ug - blue green
n - brown

Doesn't look like I have the right plug

And the octane adjustment
uy - blue yellow
nr - brown-red
nu - blown-blue

Hmmm the blue-yellow would then be red on my car?.. and It't set for diesel now :-(

I can't seem to find another connector..

Cheers

Olav

Another thought - can't trust wire colours. What shape is that connector? The diagnostic one is more triangular is shape and either 3 or 5 pin. The octane one is round and that has the red cap and the disgnostic one has a black cap.

Hi..pant pant...running back and forth to garage.

I used the round one and found a black rubber cappet thing tucked away with the right colours. It's got five holes of which three are connected in exactly the way the draper guide shows. I connected the reader and seems to give 11 (no faults) I can't believe that so I'll try again tomorrow after a short drive.

Thanks for the help Jed-S! You put me on the right track!

Cheers

Olav

Hey martijn,

You OK? Been driving the S lately?
See you soon!

Well, there really is nothing wrong. Had a little problem this afternoon(wire to afm was chaved, party broken/not making good contact) It showed up on the reader in code 36 and the car didn't drive well. Fixed that and I'm back on code 11 again...

well goofing around with older englisch cars for the last ten years did make me a bit of a pessimist I guess.

But: The car idles at no less then 1000 rpm and sometimes stalls when coming to a stop. Something is not right I'm sure.
