Hi Guys

Are there any track days or any sort of car scene around Perth where I can have fun in my car without losing my licence?

I have planned to bring my little BMW Z3M coupe over, but now wondering if a moped would be better :-)

Also off road trail riding on motorbikes, many/ any around?

There is the http://www.wascc.com.au/ and others around.
There is also the AHG driving centre that has a course on the airport, but I have never been there. Another track is being built near bunbury and the Caversham track is to be reopened to commemorate the 1957 Australian GP that was held there.
There used to be round the houses racing in Albany, but i am not sure if that is still on. And of course we have Rally West in September that claimed the life of Peter Brock last year.
Many other clubs for most marques and interests.
Dirt bikes are very popular with a number of tracks and many unofficial riding areas. The gov is looking at legislating in this area so make sure you look into it and put in your 2 bobs worth.

Agree with most of what Richard says above.
WASCC membership is a must in Perth. Gives you free access to all race meetings including the V8s, and access to the club's "tuning days" (for $50 I think) where you can drive your road or race car at Wanneroo.
To get a CAMS licence for any competition (even the sprints at the AHG track) you need to be a member of a CAMS club, again the WASCC is the best choice.
The AHG track hosts several types of entry level motorsport including motorkhanas and timed sprints. See http://www.dtec.com.au/mc-motorsport/index.htm

The Bunbury track unfortunately appears to be the figment of a deluded imagination. The same track has been proposed at a number of other sites around Perth for the past 10 years or so. Don't believe what you might repeatedly read about "groundbreaking imminent" etc. CAMS claim they have never even had a track application from the guy, and F.Nippon also claim no involvement, depite being touted as the main event. I also heard that the sponsor logos appearing on the track map etc are being used without the knowledge of said "sponsors". (This info comes from various fora in Perth, must admit it is not first hand)

Last I heard on the Bunbury track is that the project is off AGAIN...this time because someone found a rare orchid growning on the site.
The bloke who is behind the cricuit is apparently growing some of the orchids in pots at home to prove they are not rare and fragile.

Its a real shame the circuit is not going ahead because the plans showed it to have some great facilities and a decent length track.

There is some sort of sprint/hillclimb/trackday on most weekends in Perth and there is the Kwinana drag strip to play on. Try contacting a few local CAMS (aussie version of MSA) affiliated car clubs, www.cams.com.au is a good place to start. Most clubs hire one of our tracks to themselves or organise their own sprints. You will need to be a memeber of a CAMS club to get your license anyway.

I dont know much about 'proper' racing in Perth.

deviant, I can't help thinking that the flower delay may just be a smokescreen scratchchin As I said my info is 3rd hand but we have been seeing the same press releases from this guy for years now, but still nothing actually happens. You would think that the first priority would be to apply to CAMS for a track permit, no? wink
Someone did say he now has earthmoving equipment on site

I'm a bit out of touch with real racing, I raced at Wanneroo from 81 to 91, these days I just do the odd sprint event and WASCC tuning days. There is also a "hillclimb" (of sorts) at Wanneroo now, will have to give that a try.

There is a new club setting up "evening" track days at Barbagello - check out nolimitevents.com

Just haven't had time to do anything myself yet but not sure whether to join wascc and pay $40 for the tuning afternoon's or $150 odd for the above - not sure which will give the best tracktime, I must admit I don't fancy the short course at night with different paced cars.
