OFFORD MOTOR COMPANY IN OFFORD D'ARCY
Discussion
They had my Chim 500 in for a service Jan 03, together with lots of minor works (fitting continental head lights and swopping tail lights, curing leaks etc).
Overall I would say that I'm happy, I would not call them wonderful though. I asked for a courtesy car, which I received - a Saab "thingy me jig"!! which had a nail in the (flat) tyre ( I though the handling was a bit odd!!). The tyre was OK when pumped up, but I would expect them to check the car before it is offered to a customer.
Upon collecting my car, they did not have enought time to complete one request (mount a fire extinguisher in the boot) - not too much of a problem, however, I had to point out that a bulb was not working and also had to ask them to stamp my service history book.
As with most companies, it's the small touches that stay in your mind - not the big issues (as they are generally carried out OK).
If I'm in the area again, I will use them again. I have previously used Kerridges (again - missed the small items!) and Brundle (Norfolk - thankfully now out of the TVR Dealer franchise!!)

I have used offord for ages, bought 2 saabs off them and had use them for servicing the TVR and Saab.
Yes the courtesy cars are pants, they get driven hard by lots of people and returned to the garage late at night then out again the next day. If you have a problem with one tell them and they will sort it (generally) For instance I have a 9000 whilst the Cerbera is in for a service, one of the brake light bulbs has gone, it might have gone in the time I've had it, they might have missed it, either way I'll mention it and they'll sort it.
Regarding the level of service, I have usually found it to be excellent, there has been the odd mistake or thing missed, when this has happened the issue has been acknowledged and corrected without fuss. this counts for a lot in my book.
The other refreshing thing about them is that they will give you an honest opinion, and not do work that does not need doing.
Of course I reeserve the right to retract this if I pick the cerb up later in the week and have a horrid bill

Yes,
I also have Offord service my TVR for the past 5 years, been very pleased with the service. They do get busy though for such small premises and I expect that is where some of the niggles may stem from. In fact must have just missed you as my Griff is in for it's service and some new HT leads etc. Driving around on a sunny day like today in a SAAB 9k will only make the Griff seem so much better.
I also bought a SAAB from them a while back and got good service on that as well before I traded it for a quattro A3.
Mike
PS Hope your Cerb is soon back on the road.

Have been taking my Cerbera to Offords for the last year and am pleased with the service so far. Better value for money than the dealer I have used in the past.
Don't knock the courtesy cars they provide. For a relatively small independent, I'm grateful that they manage to keep me on the road and get me to work on the days when my Cerbera is with them. Considering their rates are lower than the dealer and their courtesy car service is free, I don't have anything to complain about the cars supplied. Garages I've used in the past for other cars I've owned have rarely been able to offer me a courtesy car of any descrption.
Wife's recently got a Saab 9000 and is taking it to them for servicing as well. Colleagues at work have also used them for Saab servicing and have had positive things to say.

mmmmn, seem to be a lot of us with TVRs and Saabs, Simon is a top bloke and honest.
I get both cars serviced and tweaked by Offord, they can do Abbott type mods at better prices and can take care of any mods for a Tiv.
The courtesy cars were old and battered 900s and are being steadily replaced by 9000s. The last couple I had were fine and one even had the full suspension and chip mods done!

top service, honest opinion and good value for money.
the Saab 9000 I had even had a missing bonnet catch so the thing flapped around at speed , made me feel right at home ! must have been nestling amongst too many TVRs. Interesting mix of turbo, auto ,cheap tyres and rain though ( the Saab that is)

Been done above - but I can testify to the work that Offords have done in the past for me. I had a load of work done on my Chimaera to get it fixed (£1600!!!) and I can honestly say that I am happy with the result.
Dont expect main dealer service levels though - they are small, in a small garage and your car wont be clean at the end of it. BUT they are VERY competitive on prices and this rather makes up for it. Not a real criticsm of Offords really, just an observation of a small specialist garage really.
Cheers,
Paul

I have used Offords for all my TVR owning life, nearly 5 years of which the y serviced my S Series annually and with the Griffith they have changed the clutch for me and done an exhaust MOD, which when i picked up me and Simon just stood their trance like for a moment listening
Never had any Trouble with them and cant maon about the Saabs as they are used buy a load of TVR owning Loonies with heavy right foots, they are bound to get a bit of abuse.

I have been using Offord since Christmas. I am very pleased with everything they have done for me and my car.
Thanks to all those who recommended them in the first place!
Got my Cerb back from them last night after a full tune up / niggle amnesty before going to Le Mans. Air Con fixed, steering fixed, brakes sorted, hot start problems rectified all for £90!!!
The courtesy Saabs are better than Volvo's and corsa's I have been given elsewhere before - at least they have TVR plastered all over them. I was given an automatic yesterday - first time I have ever driven one. I found it quite funny as I would come to a junction and go to push the clutch in and of course it would be the brake - resulting in locked wheels (since the abs was shot).
