no heat in car at all help

hi guys got a 2001 s type and the expansion bottle was leaking so fitted a new bottle on quite a while ago now, the other night dropped a bit cold so wife wanted heater on but alas no heat checked bottle and its upto correct level could it be an airlock and if so where does one bleed it from, or could it just be a coincidence and be the heater valve thats playing up. btw the car is reading normal temp on gauge so 99 percent sure its not thermostat aircon and all else works fine

If your S type has the same layout as an XJ then there's a small electric pump fitted into the cooling system to circulate hot water through the heater matrix.

Have a look at the hoses surrounding the engine, if you locate the pump, probrably in one of the smaller diameter hoses, then select full heat wtih the engine running and see if you can either feel the pump running, or feel if the hose is getting hot

Hi,

S-Type up to 2002.5 model suffer with heater valve failure, it's common and well known about, normally only noticed after summer when one starts wanting heat and the valve has packed up in the shut position for cold air/air con.

However, header tank again very common for failing and after fitting a new one system should have been run up to operating temp with the cap off and hot air seleted on both sides of the cabin, only when hot air blowing inside should the cap be re-fitted.(running the engine at >2000rpm will speed this up)
When the header tanks start to leak it's normally a lack off heat inside which promts someone to have a look or drive to an Indy or Agent, so may well have an air lock.

My moneys on the heater valve though.

PS, the V6 S-types dont have the booster pump as mentioned earlier, thats only on the V8 ones.
