And the Top Gear production team have just purchased this for the wrecking;

With a low 26k on the clock.

Whatever you think of this car - its a peice of national history, its interesting and its rare. How can anyone with blood running through their fingers wreck a peice of history like this for a tv show?

It confirms my suspicions that Jeremy is not a car enthusiast but more an idiot with a sense of value for money but no sense of real value. For shame frown

I'm with RR.

There can't be many of these left, and why wreck a good one? (if indeed they are going to wreck it?).

Why is it that ALL the princesses I've seen over my 33 years are either beige or brown? Did they ever make any in nice colours? biggrin

nasty nasty nasty excuse for a car and should be a source of national shame. they should have a head on in it with a marina or ital (unmanned obviously)

It's not that rare and it's not something that should be associated in the same sentence with "national history" and "its interesting".

British Leyland is a time I'd like to forget and hope that the all that remains of that obnoxious old dinosaur of a car company is blown to pieces.

Fair play if they were going to trash a 120k mile shitter of a Princess, but one with 26k??? confused

There are probably more Veyrons in the country than low mileage Princess' in good condition. I'd be far happier if they were to trash a Morris Ital. Or a FSO Polonez. Or a SEAT Marbella. Or a Renault 14. Or....or....... ranting

More fool the person who bothered to keep such a vile car in such good condition. Waste of elbow grease to clean the vile thing.

Lets hope it goes via fireball!

If it were an E Type, TR6, Lotus or even an SD1 I'd be annoyed. As it is, it's an unloved 70's repmobile, and hence no real loss. Although I'd rathher see it happen to an Allegro; if every last one were crushed our roads would be a better place

A 26k Princess, no way should they trash it! That is such a rare car and it's one of those cars that is SO bad that it's really cool!

As mentioned, an Allegro (except the 'Vanden Plas') should be destroyed, but not a low mileage Princess!

I agree that the Princess, and for that matter everything else bar the SD1, that was made by BL was a shitter, but it does seem a bit of a shame to destroy such a well cared for example.
If you dig in a bit its surprising but they actually did make some good cars (under differend badges), for example...

Jag XJ6 Series 2, Jag XJS, Mini, Land Rover, Range Rover, Triumph Herald, Triumph Spitfire, Triumph Stag,

OK there was some build quality issues with some of them.

RE the Austin Princess, its a fugly car, in a fugly colour, but thats a cherished, mint, low milage example, it deserves to end its days at one of the BL Heritage Trusts. Good examples of bad items have a place in a museum too.

Wreak a knackered example instead.

I don't know why but it reminds me of Wallice of Wallice and Gromit.
Seems like a shame to me, but I'm sure many people will get some enjoyment from it, whatever they do!

I doubt they'll wreck that one, they'll get a crappy one to wreck probably and use the one in the above pics for the other bits.

Mind you, who here would like to get stuck behind that on a sunday afternoon drive? Not me!

And is it in good condition???? It cant be very original then!
