Having both of these cars in the family, I'd guess the CTR's is about 20% larger than the fiesta's. Probably a good few inches larger in all dimensions (LxWxD). I guess this is comparable with previous generation Focus.

As for MPG, both myself (CTR) and my bro (ST) average 30mpg with mixed driving. Driving like a granny, I would say 35mpg is a realistic proposition.

Would recommend the switch personally, especially as an £8-£9K CTR has already taken its main depreciation hit. Make sure you find one with AC though.

I am in granny mode at the moment in the CTR just for the hell of it. I usually get around 300 miles to a tank (30mpg) and that includes easy 25% hoonage but I am currently 2/3 the way through and it's done 280 so I am on for a flyer. I reckon it's on for well over 40mpg probably 42-43. Sweet.

How rare an option is A/C?

Is there a major cam belt service interval mileage to be aware off, e.g. beware of cars with just under x,000 miles as you'll be getting a big bill next service.

Mine had a major service at 70k. Supposed to be at 75k I think but as I was neading for the Ring I wanted it to be right. Plugs and such got changed not sure about cam belt. Now going to service it every 10k and it's due soon. Last service was £450 but included new discs and pads all round plus major service.

Mine is non-ac. Doesn't really bother me apart from when it's really hot. They, you just cook. Would recommend AC given the choice. It's a £1200 dealer-fit option. Well it was when I bought. None came from factory with AC all dealer fit.

My granny-drive max MPG came in at 38.5mpg. Only about 7 better than it does with hoonage. It seemed to clag everything up though. Car would not pull cleanly etc. Gave up half way through second granny tank. Floored it on motorway in 4th. LOADS of smoke out the back now drives, pulls and idels much better. Answer is, give it some pex every now and then.

How d'ya do it - i've never managed more than 35mpg in the CTR - and that includes journeys with a constant 60mph or not using the brakes for most of the journey. I'm running it on pure V-power now, so maybe there is some room for improvement.

Sorry to sidetrack .. but have you had to replace any parts in 70k of driving? - i'm just over half that mileage, and O2 sensor & radiator have been replaced - still original clutch and brake pads (but due soon)!

it's a cam-chain .. i thought they were good for 8yr/96k?

Back to boot space .. good width and lengthways - it fits a full-size stage keyboard/piano with a back seat down wink

No more than 3000rpm in any gear very light on the throttle, short shifting to 6th as soon as possible without labouring. Did 385 miles on near-as-doesn't-matter 10 gallons. I use exclusively V-Power also. Car has never had anything but V-Power or Optimax in bar one or two fill-ups on BP Ultimate.

Discs and pads all round. Warranty items were handbrake cable and both headlamp units as the height-adjustment servos failed in the latter. My clutch has felt a bit funny for a while. Problem is I cooked it on the Ring and now it drags when hot and changing at high revs. Do you know if it is hydraulic or cable...? If former, probably needs fluid change and bleeding.

hydraulic - i'd get that looked at, though i would have thought the clutch itself would be the problem. my weekend car is stranded because of a failed clutch cylinder frown

Arseage mad Just about to drive it to Switzerland. Luckily there's two Honda dealers within 15 minute drive. Just hope it doesn't pack up on the way. It's been fine for 12 months. Only drags when it's hot (As in you are gunning the crap out of the car).

Anyone ran a CTR up to 100k and had to have this done? What kind of cost are you looking at for the work, and is it a potential DIY job - Come to that, what are they like as home maintenance prospects? I'm confident to tackle most tasks, but ones requiring £100's of special tools and such really annoy.

Surely not that expensive as Honda have fixed-price servicing - won't the price be the same at all Honda dealers then?

Also, has anyone used upgraded pads? If so, what d'you recommend? I'm thinking either EBC RedStuff or Pagid?
