Well, that's what my car has done

Finally resolved (fingers crossed) the overheating issue. In the end, I ran the standard setup (ie. no EWP) with uprated fans and removed the grill mesh behind the rad which is pretty restrictive. Had to richen up the idle mix a bit, and diluted my anti-freeze/water wetter coolant mix a bit.

The result, engine comes to temp, fans go on at 85-90, engine cools fan goes off.

Sounds simple eh Tried it outside and in the workshop to make the conditions a bit more trying, but the fans did their job.

I had suspected that the stack is a little generous on it's reading, but it's pretty accurate! I bought an infra red thermometer and tested the temperature at the inlet/outlet of the rad. With the fans on, there's a 10 degree drop in temperature across the rad surface.

Heater motor had seized! Fiddled about with it and managed to unseize it. Makes a ticking sound but I didn't fancy my chances of removing the blower unit and it would have meant that I'd have had to had the A/C recharged at a cost of 80 odd quid!

So I'll see how it fares over the trip to France.

Bring on Le Mans!

So do we need to stop every 150 miles for fuel on the way to Le Mas now?

How rich have you made it (turns from previous setting)

About 1/2 a turn richer.

Don't worry about stopping, I'll have filled up by the time you catch me up

He's coming along this morning. Wants it as a track day car, which is perfect.

Well done Stig. I was about to offer a boot full of Ice. See you in Dover.
I managed to start the Canam for the first time on Sunday, some might say 'about time' After a frantic hour with spanners solving a fuel filter leak all was ready. After a failed attempt (no idea why) it started first time after 30 min rest. I suspect flooding.
Anyway huge roar followed by the fire alarm in Garage going off. The car was about 6ft away at the time. Interesting thing was I didn't know I had a fire alarm in the Garage, took a while to find how to switch it off.

Big pitty not ready for Le Mans.
Next time!.

Where did you get your Pacet fans from, and how much?

I am just back from a 1600 mile odyssey down to the French alps. A freind who was with me in a Caterham R400 complained that his car overheats easily. I showed him the true meaning of overheating. I am running 15% antifreeze, water wetter, but it still wasn't enough in traffic with 35C ambient. One of the other people with me suggested that I convert my car into a teasmade, that was the point at which my sense of humour failed.

I also think I need to upgrade to the alloy expansion tank, as the plastic one Ultima used to supply just doesn't have enough capacity.

Don't think the std alloy exp tank has much more capacity. I had a problem with my car spitting out water from the exp tank when hot. Found a burr or bit of weld on the sealing area which might have been letting coolant out at less pressure than rad cap designed for. Since I dressed that off, appears to be OK.
