finding water leaks due to hoses
Discussion
noticed a couple of water leaks, well not so much leaks more like weaps.
by the expansion tank there is a blue multi union. hose on right goes to rear turbo, this has persihed at the turbo end for the first few centimeters
from the same union there is a hose which goes down and under the car running forward, i think this is called a purge hose (dunno why) the first 10 cm or so of this have perished at the multi union so much that as i kept snipping it back it just kept splitting again.
had to splice in a bit of washing machine hose as an ermergancy measure,
the hose is 9.5mm bore, any tips on good stuff to use to replace it all with?. think it might be worth doing the whole bloooody coolant system whilst i am at it

Err.....Pirtek it says it on the hose. they'll be in your local phone book. it's temp rating isn't quite high enough but it is what Noble used.
yeah i know but to be honest as the two hoses i have looked at have been pretty well shot and are only 3 odd years old i dont really wanna use the same again. i think i would prefer a decent silicon based hose that i wouldnt worry was gonna let me down.if i really cant find any decent hose to run from front to back i am tempted to hard pipe it with copper and rund short hose at each end

Hmmm tempting to change my turbo hoses for that stuff but is 10quid a metre a bit on the expensive side.alex s said:
thanks mate, will start looking into itsean_goodman said:

I have used this company for silicone hose and duct for my business.
I know they used to do automotive pipes and tubing a while back, They may be worth a try as they might not be looking for a "motorsport" premium on their price?

Just had the same thing happen to me ! The hose is just under 4 metres long and threads down the chassis (lots of tie wraps) . I went out and bought some identical quality hose from a local hose specialist (rating 10 bar , 150 psi ) and it split , in the same way in 1 night !
...So I am now buying some off goodridge as I'm not prepared to risk my engine again , as both times it was dark and it would have been so easy to run the engine dry !
Goodridge tel 01392 369090 hose type 536

sorry , I dunno ! ..I didnt ask the price but I dont think that the hose that I am buying is silicon , just good quality normal stuff , only problem is , its blue ...ah well . But it's a good idea to do em all at once ...another supplier of good silcon hoses is Samco ..worth getting a brochure !

Goodridge tel 01392 369090 hose type 536 the one that you describe (ie the one that went on mine as well ) is only a single hose that automatically bleeds the top of the rad and returns it to the system (purge) . It may only need 3.5 metres but with 4 metres i was able to do the job ok ...there arent two hoses cos it only brings water back . Hope that helps
great thanks mate, i have been out and measured up all the 3/8 hoses with regards to length. to be honest outside of the special multihoses that is pretty much all of the coolant hoses catered for. i intend to order a load of hose and replace them all.
also gonna measure the vacumm pipe ID and do them at the same time.
the website mentioned above has all the stuff required including the long piece in a single 4m length.
bit of web shopping tonight i think

all done, i used a total of 8m of 3/8 coolant hose, the hardest job was getting the old hose to part company with the nipples etc as they were well bonded on.
refilled with shell coolant which is girly pink, sadly the previous collant was green and as i didnt get all of it out it has mixed to a murky grey colour, think i will flush it through tonight with fresh water antil it runs clean and refill with fresh collant so it looks nice.
also got to drill out a couple of screws from the tuneel inspection covers as the heads sheared off when i removed them.
glad i changed all the hoses though as i was taking them out they were falling apart all over the place, i would suggest anybody with a 3/4 year old car to go and do a hose inspection!! dont just assume the service agent will have looked as my car was at plans for a 24m service just 3 weeks ago and they didnt spot it!
i also found the front under tray about 2" full of water, the drain holes were blocked by loads of small stones which i reckon came from when a previous owner may have had a track meeting with the kitty litter, plan to get the hoover in there later
