as the title says... mine is coming to the end of it's life. It's got the PPP so is only pushing 240 BHP or so, but I might uprate to around 300 BHP in the future.

I've got to say the OE has lasted very well - 80k miles.

Thanks.

The clutch on mine was replaced before I got it when the gearbox was rebuilt and all I know from the previous owner is that it's a clutch from a later model. I'm afraid I don't have any more details than that but the previous owner says it cure all the juddery clutch stuff that classics can suffer from. Mine doesn't judder at all so maybe that's worth investigating.

thanks.

Juddery when cold - it is very slightly, though it is worse now that it is so worn-down.

OE it will be then - anything else to get done whilst the car is in bits?

Juddery clutches are about par for the OE clutch, they've tried fixing em but I think they all do it, if anyone has a gopod 3rd party sugestion I may put one on the forester next time it goes...

Get the flywheel skimmed. This helps with the clutch judder.

I have an exedy race clutch in mine, and it's a bit harsh for town, but it stands up to the 330bhp I get out of the RA quite well.

Had an Exedy clutch put into my old Legacy when I cooked the original, it was miles better - no judder, better bite, better pedal feel, everything was improved.

That was only a 150 bhp NA car so not quite the same but if they make a stronger one for the turbo cars I'd recommend it.

I have an AP Racing Clutch in mine, good for 350bhp,no judder and didn't cost the earth (my old OE clutch was awful for that). Got a skimmed flywheel (removed hotspots that help cause the juddering) and it's pretty good now. Not harsh, good feel, never snatchy. I'm very pleased.

where did you get the AP clutch from please?

I found this for 400 GBP incl VAT

'
CLUTCHES - AP RACING

Two high-performance AP Racing clutch kits are perfect for all WRX and STi cars and later UK cars - the Organic Clutch Kit and the 4-Paddle Clutch Kit.

The Organic clutch kit has increased spring clamp pressure compared to the standard STi clutch, the design of the clutch diaphragm cover means that the greater pressure does not translate into a heavier clutch pedal. The clutch plate is a full circle organic plate and is not harsh like performance clutches, making it very suitable for everyday road use. A superb road clutch which is not heavy and will handle 350 bhp. '

I got mine from TSL and they fitted it too. All in it was a little bit cheaper than the Subaru dealer quoted me, including the skimmed flywheel. Not bad really and you can watch them doing it from the customer in garage seating section, right in the garage whilst sucking on a coffee.

If i had a pit or hydraulic lift i would have done it myself but it's much quicker to let them do it as they have all the kit. Takes about 4hrs smile

thanks - from their website at least TSL certainly seem to know what they are talking about, but for me a trip to Nottingham isn't likely.

I'll have to source the clutch and bearing and get my local Subaru dealership to fit it - and before you say anything yes they ARE that flexible - their main business was tractors, so they've been selling Subarus for a very long time and are top people - Culverwells.

ps their service manager told me last week to hang-on to my 'classic' - they had the new WRX in for a day, and had got lots of customer feedback on it; he sounded quite depressed cry
