Hey SAS crew,

I am not using the G33 or the bike as much as i want to, and i fancy an automatic with plenty of space as my next daily driver (start a new job on Oct 1st) so i am considering selling the 911 and getting something else.

So, assuming a budget of between £8k and £15k, it has to be an auto and it has to be an estate, and it has to be *interesting*, i am thinking:

Merc E55 AMG estate
Merc C43 AMG estate
Audi A6 4.2 Avant
BMW 330i Touring

Anyone got any comments, or any other suggestions? The E55 is my firm favourite at present...

I don't understand, do you mean you are selling em all? Or that you are selling the 911 to make you use your "toys" more of a weekend?

E55 AMG gets my vote, didn't realise you could get em so cheap, there's one on the Trader with 67k on a T for £11k.... blahhhdy bargain that - only thing is that is the previous shape and do they not rust a lot or were the AMG's ones somehow better for that. Failing that I would say a C43 would be more interesting than a 330, BMW's a bit obvious these days (sorry Nige) Mercs now a bit more Q car and hence bit more PH kudos. Audi I think would be a bit dull, you will want it be RWD without a doubt.

TC, you got it.

Commuting Bracknell to Maidenhead in E55 wagon, driving G33 and riding bike evenings and weekends. E55 wagon useful for long journeys, more than two people, dogs, carting stuff around, etc.

Deffo the E55 then, if it was your only car I might be tempted by a smaller estate for more nimble handling/fun, but as you will still have the G and a bike then no need for it to excel in that area.

E39 Alpina Touring?

Yeah, mate has an E39 B10 4.6, very nice, but the Touring is VERY scarce.
And the E55 is more subtle i think, especially if i debadge.

An RS2!! (sorry, had to get that on in there)

I like the idea of the E55 to be honest, plus they are rapid. Perhaps a 540 manual touring could be good fun? wink

We almost bought an A6 4.2 a couple of years back but it drives like a barge.

You might find a 540i Touring for that budget which is better than all of the above

Recently sold my E34 540 touring, great car but even with sports seats and sports suspension it was a barge. Prefer the E55 to the E39 540iT.

What about a C32 AMG are they not available yet at 15k?

Also Pete do you park the 911 in the multistory next to the railway station in MH? Just seen a car similar to your there?

hehe if you think the 5 series is a barge then go take a look at an E55.

sloppy suspension, vague gearbox, 6m long - undoubtedly tired at this price.

C32 Estates are about for the money.......
