Ticking/Tapping noise (suggestions Please)
Discussion
Im looking for pointers of what may be causing my new ticking/tapping noise. It seems to be coming from the back of the plenum around the stepper/fuel regulator area?. Its def not the manifolds and theres no sparks arcing from the leads it also gets louder when you put your foot down on the pedal??.

If you are sure it is not a blowing manifold then the next item to check is the cam. Ticking noise is tyical of a worn cam.
Its not the Cam i had a new stealth fitted 1.5k ago.... and its not manifolds also done 1.5k ago.hmmmm....sticky lifter or moody rocker maybe?????
Check the bolts on the rearmost outlet to the manifold on both sides. I had similar noise. I have got the manifolds off the gaskets are like new (probably sub 3k ago - not had the car long) but the manifold bolts to the rear-most cylinder had undone themselves and this was causing a small blow on both sides. Apparently it is quite common for the bolts to come loose not long after gasket replacement.
Hi Meatball
I had a similar problem with mine - I had a whole lot of exploratory work done to sort it. I had all the hydraulic tappets replaced, cam checked etc but still the noise did not go. I ended up going to a different indie to get it looked at again. It turned out to be a noisy rocker arm. What sometimes happens is the little cup whick locates the push rod had come loose in its housing and was moving up and down within the rocker arm. It's surprising how much noise that little part can make. Also at the other end of the rocker arm is a pressed in steel pad this can sometimes go adrift as well.
Hope this helps - nice wheels in your profile pic btw - what make are they?
Regards
John

I`ll try Rumblebees idea at the weekend, but my gut feeling is what you said though John ...I had a similar problem with mine - I had a whole lot of exploratory work done to sort it. Thanks for the posts chaps
John the wheels are 17" Kahn RSZ`s

I've got (had) a ticking noise on my 400hc and found three bolts loose at the front end! tonight.
Glory be to god, I've just tightened the devels up and yes ITS Gone!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you mess with these bolts, undo them and take them out first, copper slip and replace.
Don't just crank them up, they can break.
The spring washers have no spring left in them, due to the heat I suppose. i've just done myself out of a winter manifold job, what am i going to do now.

Its a good time to fit rubber rocker gaskets as well - the cork ones seem to have a limited life span.
