S14 has the SR20DET versus the older CA18 in the S13, unless its one of the later imported "180sx" (S13 body, S14 engine).

both make good power, it only really starts making a difference once you start strapping big T04E turbos etc on...

I assume we're talking jap imports as you specifically mention silvia, in which case I think the S14 SR20 puts out more power straight from the box compared to the S13 Silvia SR20 (Early S13 Silvia's have the CA18DET 1.8, but I think from 92 they had SR20's).

However the S14's VVT is a bit delicate and the S13 SR20 doesn't have VVT.

Personally if it was my choice I would go for the S13 Silvia, not so many about and I think they're great looking cars and supposedly more focussed than the S14

Go for one with an SR20DET If you prefer the look of the S13 and it has the SR20DET then that would be a good reason to get one... otherwise get the S14.
