Difficult to compare. The Boxster and Mini are very different cars with completely different configurations (ie mid-engine/rwd roadster v front-engine/fwd small hot-hatch.)

Of course it also depends which Boxster you are moving from. The Cooper will feel quite quick compared with a 2.5 or early 2.7, but a 3.2'S' will feel superior.

BTW I've got a 987'S' and, recently, a R56 Cooper. Boxster is streets ahead and far more rewarding, but the Mini's great fun.

The Mini should feel, subjectively, quicker and nippier.

Don't think you'll be disappointed, but the Boxster is a great car.

On paper the Boxster is quite a bit quicker but apparently the new cooper s is actually quicker than BMW seem to be admitting.

Mini is a good car, I have an R56 S as my run about when I dont use one of the bikes. But Porsche to Mini... No, a boxster even in non s form is superior to the mini. The mini will feel quick or at least as quick but from a dynamics point of view you will be disappointed coming from a boxster, they are just so much better balanced. Also, the porsche is better quality.

However, if you do go down the mini route can I suggest a couple of things. Spec the sports suspension but do not spec 17 inch wheels. Stick with the standard 16s as the ride with sports suspension is better. Then at the first possible oppotunity change the wheels and the tyres completely for a lighter wheel and getting rid of the bloody run flats. They are crap.

But having said all that, I'd stick with the Boxster or maybe consider changing for a newer one or a Cayman S. You don't gain anything with the mini as it is a two seater, its impossible to get 4 people in the mini - you can get one person in the back across the seat but thats not good. And, luggage capacity is about the same.

I have managed to get one hell of an insurance quote on my Boxster so its staying, after weighing up all my options i think hanging on to the Boxster is the best idea!! Love the Cooper S though.

Good stuff. Best choice all round I would have thought. I'm waiting another couple of months and then to process of replacing the mini will happen. Cayman S is the main option at the moment.

One thing, saw your insurance thread on the porsche forum, is it Bell you got the quote through? If so just check its not a 10 month policy. They are always cheaper but at the end of 10 months you can't go anywhere as other companies won't see it as 12 months no claims.

I nearly got caught through them once...

I took out a ten month policy through Elephant, apparently the renewal price with them is good according to other people who have used them so i shouldnt have to go anywhere else. Being 21 i needed to start building up my no claims.
