Anyone know if Ginetta plan on producing the new G50 as a road going car?

Ginetta used to build great cars for both road and track. But their website seems to indicate that they are only really interested in the race track these days. or am I getting it wrong.

The road going G20r is not really a road car. It is just the race car with lights and the G20 GT4 coupe just looks so badly produced with door hinges from B&Q that it is hard to take it seriously.

Mind you I think that they are missing a trick with the G50. Instead of having a ford V6 lump in the front, they could get a 300bhp Honda 4 pot engine mid mounted with 6speed gear box and the radiator/cooling in the front like the Elise/Exige which I guess would be cheaper to build and a very quick car.

Mind you fron the pictures they are still tryig to work out if they are having doors or not?

As far as im aware they're mainly concentrating on the motorsport side of things only to achieve recognition, lets face it theyre still an unheard of manufacture even today!
(we all know what happened to the likes of Dutton and TVR)

Mind you, Ginetta is all about getting back to basics simple engineering that you can achieve and fix yourself.
I suppose thats were the Ford engine/base comes in, their pretty much off the shelf (kinda british) with no 10week waiting for parts from Japan. Its comman knowledge they've been using Ford parts over the past century and just maybe their sticking with tradition? Personally I vote in favour of this.

With that its a car you can roll straight of the driveway or trailer and enjoy! For me I wouldnt want anything else.

Dunno about there being a road one, although I'm sure they'd build you one if you wanted! Lawrence and Richard Dean were at Croft yesterday, the G50 is getting a shakedown at a circuit today.. Eltingham I think. Would be good to hear how this goes! smile

Publicity bandwagon, what with Goodwood G4 and now G50 shakedown, certainly moving at the mo with Ginetta -
just in time for M/sport News and Autosport this week then?

Elvington, just outside York, on the Richard Hammond Memorial Runway. Not far from where my dad used to live.

Come on someone must have a sneak pic of the G50 chassis with its body on now?

Dont really want to get on the wrong side of LNT!

If you want to see it...ring up Ginetta and ask if you can come down...they wont mind!

Leeds is not 'down' for me, it's 'up'! Tad too far at the moment.

Heard at Goodwood they had the body and panels on - won't be long before they issue pics I'm sure. Just keep watching their site.

It's hard to form an opinion on the front styling without the headlights but I'm liking the overall shape.

Well done. That is what can only be described as quick development, and it looks good too... Only comment is the door handle looks a bit agricultural but i guess this si a development car after all!

Well despite peoples previous comments, i think it looks great. In the photos its looks alot smaller than the Panoz (aome people thought it was a badge engineered Panoz).

Quite fancy a road going one.

It's on track and _does_ look quite good. It would be even better to see it on a circuit and see what sort of times it does.. smile Can't wait to see and hear them!! Imagine a grid of 26 or so?? Hurtling around Brands or Rockingham??! biggrin

Yeah, just like Britney Spears sounds like Marilyn Manson. Of course Pessimists and Armchair Experts will say that what with LNT's links rather than looking at the positives and being enthusiastic. Damned from the start aren't they! I for one can't wait to see this out!

Looks very promising. Nice overall shape, and in a lightweight package the Duratec V6 should provide strong, reliable performance.

I have to say I quite like that, bearing in mind it's not finished - they could evolve a road car from this shape. Even the dash shape looks well thought out (digital going in there?)

Panoz influence?
Bound to be some but to me it looks like a superb progression from the G20 (which anyone knows, I am no big fan of).

TVR gone, looks like someone is about to fill that gap.

What with the brilliant showcase of the G4 at Goodwood and now this, they have my backing.

Surprised to see nothing in the m/press this week about it (unless I missed it). Ok, just seen it was in Motorsport News (should have known - but was it anywhere else?)

Getting a new and fast Ginetta onto the road will be good for all of us Ginetta owners. Maybe i will be able to stop explaining who Ginetta are after people have asked what my car is.
