while at a supplier picking up some parts for my restoration the talk turned to what the parts where for
when i mentioned tvr he said that his friend had had one in the garage for 20 years and it was in walking distance
what i found was an early mga engined grantura {still runs} on wire wheels appears to be complete and not in to bad a condition although it would definatly be a doer up and he wants to sell it
if anyone is interested i am going back there tues/wens and could have a better look

Could well be if the price is right and if it is a Mk 3 coil sprung car.

If you could find out how much the guy wants and e-mail me I would be grateful

Neil.

Condition is the main driver. MkIIIs are a lot more valuable than MkIIas or earlier as they are very competitive in historic racing and they only built about 50 in the first place. MGA engine could be either.

Steve Reid was selling his MKII in immaculate condition got about £12k. Where is the car - Staffordshire?

If it is a MKIII with provenance there will be a lot of people interested

Shhhhhhhhhh!
N

There goes a bargain!smile

Scrap cars are worth scrap value. They are only worth money after someone has invested the 15k required to re-build them. all this value nonsense really bugs me at times.

Its also a shame how fickle the market is. I think a Mk 1 or 2 / 2a would make a lovely and much rarer classic than a 3. then again i suppose it us prospective racers outbidding each other which causes the problem in the first place.

WENT BACK TODAY CAR IS A 1965 GRANTURA 1800S WITH AN MGB ENGINE
IT IS IN NEED OF A TOTAL RESTORATION BUT DOES LOOK COMPLETE
BUT THE OWNER WHO I HAVE NOW MEET SEEMS TO HAVE AN IDEA THAT THE CAR IS OF HIGH VALUE
ANY IDEAS ON THE VALUE OF OF THIS CAR

Technically the 1800S does not qualify for pre 31.12.64 Racing but there are a couple of cars which did sneak in under the wire. The owner though will have to prove the Build date and preferably first registration date as actually pre end 1964.

value will be wholly dependant upon what can be proven around the date

as an 1800S though it is essentially what he can get someone to pay.

As a basket case bonded body chassis car though bank on a new chassis being required (If you can get one)

I would pay up to £1500 if Not eligible for pre 65 and a bit more if it was eligible.

Doubtless the owner thinks it will be worth more!

Compare this with an S2 vixen I have just sold sitting on a brand new Built Chassis with all new parts which I let go for a smidge over £4k

Neil.
