One for the techy's amongst us I imagine:

My '98 XJR has is warnign me that the bonnet is open even though it is clearly closed. However, because of this it is not allowing me to lock the car via the key-fob - only by the key.

I've tried disconnecting the battery to reset but this hasn't worked and the fusebox details don't seem to show a fuse relating to the bonnet catch.

Anybody got any ideas?

Cheers,
Iain

Groomi, there are one or two bonnet closed switches under the bonnet (on XKs they are built into the bonnet latches) I can't remember if the XJs are configured the same or not. Anyway, a bad bonnet switch could cause both problems, sending a false signal to the message center and not allowing the FOB to lock/activate the alarm system. The bonnet switches are very easy to function test with a DVOM set on the continuity setting.

XJ bonnet switch is seperate from the hinges. On mine (2000) it's on the offside of the bonnet compartment right at the front.
